I know the Heat have injuries right now, but I got to say their supporting cast didn't impress me or evidently Lebron very much considering how little he seemed to trust in them.

I know it was just preseason, but it was good to see Atlanta not fold like a lawn chair late against a Lebron team.

Has Josh' shot selection been poo poo all preseason? Whats your thoughts on his shots? He doesnt care bc its preseason? Hes a moron? Hes regressing?

It's hard to say - his shot selection has been pretty garbage, but then again, it IS preseason, where teams (and players) try out new things. Hopefully he'll rein it in and keep the jumpshots to practice in the gym until it's at least as good as Al's.

I would be giddy if he could get a jumper like Als. That would be beautiful. How hard do we think he has been working on it? It doesnt seem like its gotten much better over the years.

Can't say about Josh's shots as I haven't seen much of preseason. I hope he's just getting it out of his system because taking a 3 early in the shot clock with a 3 point lead with less than 2 minutes to go is ridiculous.

For all the grief Smoove's getting here, he was still 5 for 10 from the field. His shot selection musta been pretty decent.

I have no problem with him trying to expand his range so long as he mixes in some dunks to make up for the long shots.

Come on, guys, 50% is fine.

It's all in context. He took a semi-contested 3 with a good 18-ish seconds left on the shot clock with 2 minutes left in a game in which we were up by 3.

Are you really sure J. Smith took a 3pter with 2 mins to go in the beginning of the clock? he doesn't do it, not him. I have never seen that before, he's a mature guy and we should build around him. That's the type of guy that wins championships.

Why are you satisfied with 50% when he could so easily shoot 60 if he eliminated the trash?

From the highlights, the ball movement looked nice. Teague had some nice finds.

You know I love Josh, but he did exhibit some bad shot selection in what I saw last night. The 3 pointer late was obviously bad, but earlier in the game he also took a long 2 early in the shot clock. That shot is available any time, in fact the defense is daring him to take it. To launch it early from there undermines the offense and is bad as Joe pounding the ball for 15 seconds trying to decide if he has an advantage. Josh might hit one of those occasionally, just like Joe may make the shot after dribbling that long, but it hurts the offense and might lead to someone else launching a shot out of the flow just to get theirs. If Josh takes an open jumper later in the clock because that is what the offense produced then fine, but to launch early or outside of the offensive scheme is selfish and counter-productive.

I looked at the shot chart and Josh was 4 of 5 in the paint and 1 of 5 from outside. The partially contested 3 at that point in the game was obviously an emotional attempt to make a big play, but in the regular season and post season I would hope that Josh keeps his head in the game enough to run the offense with trust that a higher percentage shot will become available.

I remember him launching a three late in close game. I believe it was against @ Golden State.

No thread for the final preseason game and since the score is 71-41 right now I don't feel like starting one. I guess this means that we got up for Miami and relaxed for Charlotte rather than the thought of ramping it up into regular season. Charlotte's a tough place to play, but I hope we don't give inconsistent effort during the season. We got a lot of back-to-back games and a win against a good team is negated if followed by a loss to a lesser team (sorry Charlotte).

Ya, and I hope Marvin morphs into LeBron James. Though the season hasnt started I dont expect much to change this year. There will be road woes, there will be constant iso's, Josh will shoot jumpers, and Marvin will tease us 20 times a season. Its the Hawks. Its what they do!

Come on. All I asked for was consistent effort (not even success, just effort). No need to play the Marvin card on me.

HAHAHA. It sounds like such a simple to thing to ask for, yet you know it wont happen. This is the Hawks, no matter who is pushing the buttons.

Why are you so DISsatisfied with 50% when (probably) 90% of the non-center NBA shoots LESS than 50%?

If Smoove can't experiment with a 3 in preseason, when can he? Come on, he was trying for a Larry Bird moment, as when Bird used to stick a dagger in the opponent's heart in the last minutes of a game. Smoove's heart is always in the right place, even when his choices aren't. He has ambition: he wants to be like Bird. I'm inclined to give him great slack so long as he maintains a good level of production and play -- and 50% is most definitely good.

Give me a break. You know what I meant. I meant to break the other team's heart with a last-minute 3 the way Bird used to.

But I do think Smoove is ambitious.
