model the deal like the gasol trade, its not paying too much or too little

m. gasol - gallo
td - crittenton (if want to keep TD out, then put in walker, basically need a lower valued prospect here)
picks- our pick and one from ar trade
kwame/mckie - curry -expirings

chandler has to stay due to his versatility

Exactly. The situations are different. One could argue the value of the players involved. But its really about the basic construction of this type of deal.

Yeah we can keep Chandler if we trade for Anthony. That's my offer too. Curry and Randolph and picks or whatever.

By the way, that's not true about the Gasol trade, his worth at time. I'd argue that Anthony Randolph is worth about the same as Marc Gasol was at the time and Gallo is way above that value. No thanks.

fair point. and i agree with you generally speaking. but a defensive big liekly cant be had until the offseason..

OK, so save your assets and wait until the offseason to get one. Rome doesn't have to be built in a day here.

That starting lineup with Mayo would be the most stacked in the NBA no doubt. but our bench would be terrible.

The bench would not be great. But Harrington/TD off the bench would not be the worst situation. You also have to consider the skill sets of the starters. TD can play off the ball with Mayo or felton.

I also forgot to add ronny.

But keep in mind we have the MLE in the summer to add to that bench.

Also, to the people saying that acquiring Melo would help relieve the minutes on the Knicks' starters, I'm not really clear on how you add depth by trading some combination of Gallo/Chandler/Fields to get him.

You mean you have to worry about how a team is constructed? Because I keep hearing that all you need is 2 superstars like Melo and Iverson.

Iverson was on the downside when he went to Denver plus as much a ballhog you think Melo is Iverson was a hundred times worse and a guy who was impsosible to put another go to scorer who needs his shots to play alongside

The facts are the Pistons are the only team in 30 years to win a title without a hall of famer or two.. Its a superstars league

Do you consider Chandler an asset worth saving? Because if so, Chandler can't be re-signed if we wait until the offseason to sign Melo.

Also as we talked about a few weeks ago, Harrington is the only guy that would have to wait. Unless its Moz going in a deal. Felton stays put and Mason is not the type of player that would hold up a deal like this.

Amare
Melo
Fields
Mayo
Felton

Harrington
TD

There is your 7 man. Not in that order but just a example. Pretty balanced. Maybe Thabeet or Moz also as the 8th man. Just seems to fit what Walsh has been doing and saying.

Again this is just speculation. I admit im not the best when it comes to predictions. But it just seems to fit.

Would we still have Turiaf in this scenario? If so, this would be a rough comparison to our current lineup:

replace Gallo with Melo
replace Wilson with Mayo
replace Walker/Mozgov off the bench with Harrington

Not too shabby, though I still shudder at the idea of bringing back Free Candy.

Chandler is a nice piece but he's not untradeable. If I could move him in a package for a great defensive center with a halfway decent offensive game, I would. Perhaps somebody like that will become available in a sign-and-trade in the offseason.

i think the knicks are very torn now about breaking up the team too much. i suspect they'll wait a little while to really evaluate. these next 2 weeks will tell us a lot. if we go .500 against these teams i expect them to really low ball denver.

Find a 3rd team for Free Candy. He would ruin my excitement about getting Melo. No thanks.

I agree wholeheartedly that the Knicks could really use a defensive big who can also score. The problem is, there will likely not be any available this offseason. If we're pinning our hopes on signing a big in the offseason we stand a VERY realistic chance of striking out. Rome wasn't built in a day, but given Amare's limited shelf life, we don't have much time before the Huns start to invade.

Fair response. It's nice when some people can actually pose a thoughtful counterargument instead of "But, but, but he's a SUPERSTAR!"

Yeah free candy would be a tough one. But if Gallo and Wilson end up dealt, we would need him. What a dummy he was here. But the dude is a warrior. My thinking is behind all that talent and leadership he would have a much better 2nd go around.

But its possible he goes to a 3rd team. The thing is, unless its Moz, or a 3rd team we dont know about, Harrington is the only guy that holds up a deal till the 15th. Thats why I suspect he is involved.

So you're not against trading Chandler and others in a package for a player to make them better, just not a certain player, correct?

I'm not against getting Melo at a certain price, but if it leaves us devoid of good fill guys, and the assets to get a defensive big, it seems short-sighted.

The thing about Melo-Iverson was there were people who wondered how successful that was going to be, but I do remember a lot of folks saying it was that 2-superstar pairing that would get the Nuggets to be legit contenders.

Are we over-reacting to a win streak and overvaluing our current players? maybe. But I find it hard to believe anyone can say with certainty what we have. Let it play out. These guys are very young. Let's see what they have in the next month before we act like they're nothing special.

Some people are acting like a midseason trade for Melo definitely gets us further in the playoffs than our current roster. I just don't buy it, unless we get him sacrificing only one starter. Even then, it's a work in progress. The only reason I see us rushing this is to make Melo happy. The value of that--IMO, debatable.
