In hindsight lebron switching to 6 due to 23 being retired it's the same deal with Melo and 9. These are the teams with a retired 15 jersey: Celts, Pistons, Knicks, 76ers, Blazers.

One source, who spoke on condition of anonymity because he wasn't authorized to speak on it, thought the Denver Nuggets were close to shipping Carmelo Anthony to the New Jersey Nets last week. That was stalled after the death of Anthony's sister.
The Cavs could be a third team involved in such a deal, but they would require at least one draft pick in exchange for making the salaries fit using their trade exception.

If winning is his goal why would he entertain other places that offer a 'maybe' 'if' they can find more pieces when he has that already in Denver? He knows his brand would boom in NY so he'd make probably just as much if not more than he would potentially miss out on the contract off endorsements so I don't think the money will get in the way. Just will doubts about the CBA or bad advice from his inner circle in a moment of weakness could cause him to sign on the dotted line elsewhere.
He's getting paid no matter what the CBA says or where he winds up, he's got to know this. It's just can he overcome the circus around the prospect of him becoming a FA and stay focused on where he wants to be. The three in Miami did it, can Melo?
I'm torn.
The problem here is that if we Trade for him one of the following is gone: Gallo, CHandler, Fields.
If we sign him in the Off-Season, Chandler is gone.
