just thought id throw it out there

In hindsight lebron switching to 6 due to 23 being retired it's the same deal with Melo and 9. These are the teams with a retired 15 jersey: Celts, Pistons, Knicks, 76ers, Blazers.

It really doesn't matter. If a player goes to a new team, he can choose to take a new number. He doesn't need to arrange it beforehand. -Jitpal

so basically nugs/cavs/nets have agreed in principal to a trade that lands melo in NJ. However, it seems Melo has yet to agree to the extension otherwise it would have happened already.

i think melo needs to be upfront and tell denver what it is.. i dont think his image will take as big a hit as lebrons because lebrons biggest problem was the way he handled the situation, how he toyed with everyone.. Carmelo is handling the situation better than lebron did already, but he needs to let them know.

You can argue that Melo is toying with everyone just as much as lebron...with that said I agree he needs to be upfront with his demands.

I agree Mello should be upfront but at this point in time barring an injury I think Denver would be foolish not to ask for Chandler just because he is playing so well.

Quote from the Akron-Beacon Journal

One source, who spoke on condition of anonymity because he wasn't authorized to speak on it, thought the Denver Nuggets were close to shipping Carmelo Anthony to the New Jersey Nets last week. That was stalled after the death of Anthony's sister.

The Cavs could be a third team involved in such a deal, but they would require at least one draft pick in exchange for making the salaries fit using their trade exception.

He could very well rationalize that if he comes here without breaking the core up he could be the piece that puts the Knicks into finals contention.

If winning is his goal why would he entertain other places that offer a 'maybe' 'if' they can find more pieces when he has that already in Denver? He's got a definite 'yes' to winning in NY if he waits, there's no 'if' or 'maybe'. The Knicks have the talent, have the money and have the venue that he so desperately craves.

The truth is if he does come here as a FA and the Knicks can manage to keep Chandler and possibly Turiaf, and even without keeping them both, the Knicks could very well be in the top tier of teams in the east next season. Melo has to be very intrigued by that prospect. Would he give up some contract dollars for the chance to win in one of the biggest markets?

He knows his brand would boom in NY so he'd make probably just as much if not more than he would potentially miss out on the contract off endorsements so I don't think the money will get in the way. Just will doubts about the CBA or bad advice from his inner circle in a moment of weakness could cause him to sign on the dotted line elsewhere.

He's getting paid no matter what the CBA says or where he winds up, he's got to know this. It's just can he overcome the circus around the prospect of him becoming a FA and stay focused on where he wants to be. The three in Miami did it, can Melo?

I'm torn.

The problem here is that if we Trade for him one of the following is gone: Gallo, CHandler, Fields.

If we sign him in the Off-Season, Chandler is gone.

Yeah well IMO the problem is a little different. If we trade for him two of those are gone. Don't see Denver doing a deal for one of the three. Off season only one.

Hey I'm enjoying the hell out of the team we have. If he doesn't come and we re-sign WC I'll still be very happy. Very happy. I believe in the guys we have. They work well together and have high character. I think they can be greater than the sum of their parts.

Yes but I think this game shows us how bad we need melo I don't want to be prisoner of the moment but amare is trying to keep us in it but he can't do it by himself

carmelo is not goin to new york if you only willing to trade one of thes guys, gallinari, fields, chandler. No way its gonna happen. so just forget about it.these three guys combined are no where near as talented as carmelo by himself. so what make you think your gonna get carmelo only trading one of them.

No one thinks we are getting Melo this season without giving up 2 of our 3 youngsters

Shout out to all the homies who maintained the common sense logic that Melo would improve this team. To all the homies who stuck to their guns even when this team was winning and everyone decided to abandoned the Melo trade idea, the true knowledgable basketball fans never wavered.

NYK Trade: Eddy Curry, Anthony Randoplh, Gallo, Chandler, Mozgoz, Azubuke. a high 1st round pick

Den Trade: Melo Nene

You guys save tons of money and get young talents. While Moz A.R have Team options, So really Gallo would be the only 1 their pass 2 yrs.

Yes, No or would you guys rather wait and gamble in the summer.

heres one that was in our nuggets board. eddy curry, this guy doesnt even play. Gallo the worst of your 3 youngsters. mozgov, i have nothing so say about him. and this guy still wants nene. was he high when he wrote this or do knicks fans really think the nuggets will trade carmelo for garbage.

I'm torn as hell on whether or not we should blow this up to get another superstar.

The point made was that Amare/Melo carry themselves like superstars on the court and there is something to be said for that. Not to mention both of them being stars feeding off of each other is a potent combination and will free up the rest of the role players to do their thing.

Tough choice to make.
