ATL contends with Nash/JJ/Hill/Horford/Lopez and PHX gets 2 good rebuilding pieces

I believe that, if we ever want to have a chance for something bigger, this proposal wopuld be great, in case it was real.

Of course we are losing one of the best exciting young players in the L, but you have to give something in order to get something.

With Nash, Hill and López we get a really good roster (we have to add Bibby, Crawford, Marvin, Powell, Zaza and Collins) with 10 players that can play and this would be may be the most complete roster in the East in number of pieces. Just Boston could compete with our rotation (I am talking about deepness, not quality, in which we could probably be still a step behind), but this roster could play deep in the POs and have a chance to play the Finals.

In any case, in one and a half years we would be freeing and important amoun of money with Nash. Also Hill and Crawford come off the books this summer.

What I am not so sure now is if we should trade JSmoove or Horford. Al will be a near 20-10 all his career. JSmoove is able, IMO, to have perios in which he can offer more than that, but not regularly.

I think Steve Nash is my favorite player in the NBA...

But trading Al or Smoove for him is not wise. Both of them will be producing at a high level for many years to come - Al may very well be a legit 20/10 and Smoove impacts the game in nearly every aspect - many, like energy and shots altered, that don't show up in the box score. Ideally, you want to bring a talent like Nash INTO that core.

Moreover, you just don't know how long Nash has left and even IF he'll be here beyond 2012 (or if the world will survive :o lol). This isn't the ideal trde for either of those guys.

Unless Nash makes us better enough right now to contend...
... and there is no lock-out...
... and Nash leaves in time for us to use his money (and what's left of Crawford's) to sign Chris Paul.
My mother told me, she said, "Elwood, to make it in this world you either have to be oh, so clever or oh, so pleasant." Well, for years I was clever; I recommend pleasant.

IMO, The offer that makes most sense for Nash is

Steve Nash
Grant Hill
Channing Frye

for
Jamal Crawford
Mo Evans
Mike Bibby
2011 1st
2013 1st
Right to switch 2014 1sts

The trade would only happen if Nash wants out. Hill is included to give the old man a shot at a title. For Phoenix they clear cap, get 2 1st rounders albeit 2011 will be low (20s), the 2013 pick could be interesting, and the 2014 switch might be attractive as well. Including Frye gives a do over on his large contract as he may no longer fit in their rebuilding plans.

For the Hawks, they replace Bibby with Nash and then add an expiring Grant Hill for his experience as backup SF. Frye settles into the big man rotation by providing a skill set that is currently missing of stretching the floor. His inclusion keep us under the tax threshold this year, but he has multiple years on his deal which may require other moves down the line. The big sacrifice is losing Jamal's ability to create his own shot, but his expiring contract is more desirable to Phoenix than Marvin's contract. The big bonus is that Nash will sell tickets to more casual fans. His creative ability in the half court should also get Al, Josh, and Joe the ball in scoring position more often.

Resultant roster:
Nash/Bibby/Teague
Johnson/Jordan Crawford/Sy
Smith/Williams/Hill
Horford/Powell
Collins/Frye/Zaza/Thomas

The question is would it be worth 2 1sts and taking on some contracts to do this? On the ESPN trade machine it projects as a 16 game win improvement. If everything clicks that might be enough to snag 3rd place in the East. The resultant roster is deep and flexible (albeit maybe thin at SG). I think it'd be worth the gamble and I'd renew my season ticket even with the threat of a lockout to see Steve Nash surrounded by such weapons as Josh, Al, Joe and even Marvin.
