No Longer Interested in Mayo?

The Knicks are probably asking for a ridiculous price for him then. If that's the case, I doubt a deal will be reached

Its good to hear that we have no interest in Mayo. I just dont think he would fit on this team at all. We dont need a short, ball-dominant SG who isnt a good defender

I could be wrong, but I'm assuming that is a reference to how many teams Randolph has played for rather than a reference to bringing in a third party for the trade.

That could be, PH.

My thought was that we'd be the third team in a Melo deal

Memphis is interested in Randolph too? I'd like Randolph in a Wolves uni.

Ah ... I bet you're right PHTown. I hear "third team" and I always think trade.

Thanks!

Coward move by us to back out because of that "fight". They are both cool with each other now wasn't that big of a deal imo. We could use a guy on our team who has fight in them.

Happened before. I wouldn't be surprised if they were asking for too much for Mayo.

Kind of sad, I would have liked to have seen what Mayo would look like on this team. Maybe it's just posturing? I don't know. Randolph would still be cool though.

How can I be no longer interested in Mayo if I was never interested in him to begin with?

For all those good with cap issues and/or think they have a handle on the Wolves desires...

What do you think Kahn is waiting for to use the ~12mil in space?

Or do you think he's not going to use it up and just have the Wolves run at minimal cost?

We really don't need our cap space to accomplish this, just an owner willing to potentially pay luxury money. The 12M is basically a trading chip that expires after this year - not using would be a massive, massive mistake IMO and would go a long ways towards getting me off of the Pro-Kahn wagon. I do not think for a second that Kahn has been given the order to cut costs to save Taylor some cash, I think the idea is to dump junk salaries to have leverage at trade time. Blowing this chance costs us two years of development if you ask me....not that you would.

I think you can ask an owner to go into the lux tax to maintain a contender, but not when you're still trying to get out of the bottom 5 of the NBA.

I think he's just waiting until closer to the trade deadline. It's still, what, a month and a half away? A lot can happen in that time.

Waiting for the right deal and trying to evaluate current personnel.
If he adds long-term salary it will have to be to add a player that would give us a "big 3", most likely a SG like Iguodala. I think that he's mulling that type of scenario as "plan A". If he adds that type of player, he's going to have to send out a 2012 salary or 2 to make room for extensions for Beasley and Love. Likely 2 of 3 between Flynn, Pek, and Johnson.

Plan B would be to absorb expiring contracts with draft picks or young assets attached.
Plan C is to save Taylor money.

I guess it depends on how convinced you are in what you're seeing. If you fail to lock up the Beasleys and Loves of the world, you're pretty much doomed to having to find them again in the draft in the future. I think Taylor is willing to write that check, it's just a matter of whether or not the right deal will come along. I know Kahn wants to rob anyone he deals with, but in a case like an Iguodala, he may be faced with coughing up Wes Johnson and more to make it happen. In that case, I have to think it's a lot easier to face fans when you can tell them you just added a player from Team USA. I hate his contract, but I have a feeling that the odds of us putting the screws to someone is pretty unlikely and Philly and MN may have assets that match.

Like I said earlier, doing nothing to me is considerably worse than making a deal that is even and not robbery for us. That's IF we can bring back an absolute starter for the next 3-5 in a deal. If they fail to make a deal, I'd hate to work in their call center calling people to buy tickets when fans realize that we just ate 12M in salary we could have used to make us competitive.

I would like to believe we are not looking to operate at a low cost, but instead that we are waiting to hit a home run. What worries me is that we might not hit that home run and end up sitting on our cap space through the deadline. If we don't see Randolph, Iggy, Mayo, or player X as "the guy," then does that mean we do nothing? I could understand that, but it sure would be disappointing.

I find it hard to believe that an argument on a team flight is the only reason that they're no longer interested in Mayo. I mean Kahn signed Beasley when he knew full well "he smoked too much weed in Miami" and Darko's had more arguments with players and coaches over the years than Latrell freakin' Sprewell... Ok, maybe not Sprewell.
