His image, which we are led to believe at this point he's very mindful of, will be tarnished beyond repair as this is a money move and nothing else relating to winning basketball. Nets fans seem indifferent, some upset about this whole thing. They are a team with no identity beyond the front office. They have a player in Brook that has regressed or been exposed this year as a soft big guy. Nene is better than him, George Karl is a better coach than Avery Johnson at this point. The most exciting player on the current Nets will be a part of this deal so the same "old legs" he's trying to leave in Denver (love is love Chauncey) are coming with him. And Chauncey's the big homie, so he already let it be known this is not a quality move by stating he wants out if included. Kobe has let it be known to follow your heart. If not why not stay where you are?
The guy clearly doesn't wanna go to Jersey but apparently will out of fear of losing money. Money which he'd likely lose anyway if at all mind you (according to early CBA negotiation chatter). The powerbrokers in charge of his career are straight selling him out. There are no "nearly-Knicks" and I'm sure for-now teammate Kenyon would attest to playing in the shadow of the Garden, as I said in another post, I don't think out-of-towners really know and understand that: New York City is NOT New Jersey.
He's gonna get his bank regardless but they are steering him into an abyss of a franchise with fear tactics, greed and exploitation. If these reports are accurate and he ends up signing off to extend with New Jersey, I'll be disturbed on many, many levels, perhaps the least of which being a Knick fan. How awkward a press conference will it be watching Melo gush about being a Net, knowing he really wanted to be here with Amare and Ray? Knowing he came strictly for the money? Lol. Freedom IS the wealth, bruh. Slavery days are over. Over-the-top? Maybe. Without symmetry, hardly. He's being punked. I'm Brooklyn. We don't make that.
Denver has roughly a month left of power. After that it's all him. They're spiting this guy all because of that damn wedding toast (CP3, you owe us one dude). He has given all indications he has no plans of being a Nugget beyond this season so when he walks this summer (if we get there), he's no villain for emancipating himself. He gave you (Denver) fair warning. Gallo is a pretty good player lol. No? Ok. Trade exceptions are pretty handy as far as I've heard but they don't go to the All-Star Game, feel me?
Melo, much like Lebron did (I've been saying it, you can't hate dude for it), is (trying to get) where he wants to be to win alongside a guy who he knows he can win big with...except this city cares and he's never made his own affinity a secret. He should not be persecuted for this. We are a good team with a star player (and good homie), a filthy-rich owner, awesome young guns to run with, a vet GM that "gets it" and the stage awaiting you and the family. When you get here you'll smile that good smile, that real smile and you'll be "bringing your star with you" the way the legends always have. So we'll smile too.
Hold on young brother....hold on. Don't let yourself down. You said "bully season", no? Who's the bully? Show us.
This is an excellent post. I agree wealth is freedom, but some say there s a difference between being wealthy and just being rich. I Agree though about Melo. He sits on the border of someone who wants to manifest his own destiny while at the same time hedging for the most security possible between him and his family. Not sure which way he is leaning at this point though....
