As for taking away a significant portion of fans from the Knicks, they are going to outperform them for 5-10 years.
I am not opposed to having two basketball teams in New York, but I am not sure the market really wants it. It kinda works in LA because LA is a basketball-first city, but New York definitely is not. Even these days with Amare hyping it up, basketball finds itself behind both baseball and football, and I cannot see that change for the foreseeable future.
Well from the people I know in Brooklyn, they could care less were getting a team since most of us are Knick fans and you know its all nyc. maybe it gets some fans but yeah you hit the nail on the head.
As for the two teams thing, i think that there are a lot of basketball fans here but considering the Giants, Jets and Yankees are elite, while the Knicks have sucked for about 10 years and the Nets are always irrelevant, its hard to make them the top story. When the Knicks become good I think that changes. I dont think the Nets can get the city buzzing though, so i kinda agree. The city is more spread out in its sports.
