I'd doubt he'd sign with us or any team where he doesn't have a chance to at least compete for the starting job.

Yeah, he'll probably go to a team like AZ if they don't get Vick, McNabb, etc.

I doubt he would sign with us, but it would be cool, I've always liked Hass.

I agree with that, but the question wasn't whether we should trade Flynn, it's if we trade Flynn, how should we react to our backup position. And I just don't feel confident enough in Harrell to go into next season with him as our backup. A decent veteran, preferably a younger one who could ressurect his career under MM's tutelage, would be preferable. I'd look at guys like Leinart, Alex/Troy Smith, or even someone like a Tyler Thigpen.

I don't think we are trading Flynn if they don't think Harrell can be the backup. I don't see them bringing in a veteran backup, not TTs style so I think your specific question is pointless hence why I went the direction I did with my response.

Wow. That wasn't my question, Chuck. That's the thread's question. :)

I agree with the idea that we shouldn't trade Flynn if we don't believe Harrell can step up.

The question of the thread was, if we traded Flynn who do you want as his backup. My answer is Harrell.

Thanks.

In that case I would probably look to trade at draft time and get a decent pick for him.

I highly doubt Flynn would be interested in signing a deal with us to be a career back up to Rodgers.

Apparently there can't be any trades until the new CBA established. So we wouldn't be able to trade Flynn for picks if the CBA isn't done by the time the draft rolls around. I heard someone on ESPN talk about this when they mentioned Kolb wants to be traded.

That's a bummer. Hopefully that gets resolved by draft time. Restructuring rookie deals is one of the biggies, right? Maybe that's enough motivation for them to get it done by draft day. :/

I don't believe teams have to, maybe they even can't, sign draft picks until the new CBA is in place so I don't think thats any extra motivation.

Yeah the way I understand it, the draft will still happen and players won't be signed until there is a new CBA.

The draft is definitely included in this current CBA, I know that teams can't sign free agents or make trades until a new one is in place so my guess is that they also can't sign rookies but I don't know that for fact.
