Denver is running the risk of alienating many parties here. Melo, Nugz fans, Leon Rose, and maybe most importantly Jersey. Not to mention, the new GM isn't exactly engraciating himself to the league front offices. Wouldn't surprise me at all if teams will become quite hesitant to deal with the Nuggz from here on out. Have to remember here, that this isn't the first Melo to Jersey deal to fade away.
Both Jersey and Detroit expected Denver to hold Melo/Chauncey out of Sunday's game, and were upset that they played. Denver can say whatever they want to, but when 2 different teams involved expected the same thing, a deal was VERY close if not already agreed upon. Tells me Denver backed out.
Denver looks to be playing an extremely risky game of russian roulette here if they intend to wait and re-hash this close to the deadline. On one hand, their efforts to bleed every last drop from this deal could pay off and they could get mass assets and dump contracts all at one time, if Jersey caves. On the other more likely side, Jersey (knowing theirs is the best deal on Denver's table) holds out til just before the eleventh hour then tells Denver to stuff it. Which would force Denver scrambling to muster up another deal elsewhere at the last minute, accept a previously offered lesser deal, or lower their demands from Jersey to get the deal done before the buzzer.
Either way Denevr will ultimately get something for Melo in the end. But if the deadline passes with Melo still in Denver, they wont be getting much of anything in a S&T scenario other than a large TPE they'll likely never use since they are looking to cut costs to start with. Jersey still has the best package to offer. Sure other teams can beat it, but not with assets that they are willing to give up.
