It could be a lot of money absolutely. No one knows how much nor how much that potential difference matters compared to being in the situation you want for the prime years of your career.
I argue that we know exactly how much money is at risk here. He's risking a guaranteed $65 million over three years. That's the risk. Do we know how much less he will get? No. But do we know it will be less if he doesn't take the guarantee? Absolutely.
If it was absolutely all just about money then he would have extended. Why risk a career threatening injury this year squashing that extension...if it's all about money? If money was all that mattered then he would have extended and we wouldn't be discussing him. So obviously it's not just about money.
Of course not. But just because it's not "all about the money," doesn't mean that money isn't a driving factor. That is, after all, why these guys play basketball. Any grown man who can stare $65 million guaranteed in the face and turn it down is either very brave or very foolish.
At which point, he needs to decide how much risk he's willing to take to get what he really wants. Do we agree at least that what he really wants is to be a Knick? So what is the value of that in dollars? That's the debate for him...not for us to guess at.
Fair enough. On that we agree.
