If you do the lifting stuff P90X style and substitute basketball as the cardio, I would have to think it would actually be better than just regular P90X.

I gained 10 Lbs over the holidays, ughh. Good thing is I am converting a spare bedroom into a home gym. I have a membership to a gym but I would like to workout once in awhile when watching Bucks games or other TV shows and at least be productive while watching TV. I ripped out my carpet a few days ago. I am going to install some of our rubber flooring in the room next week while filming an installation video for our rubber flooring website. I am also going to buy this bad boy I think:
http://www.nordictrack.com/webapp/wcs/s ... 002_124203

And then I will install a perfect pull up bar in the door way and get some adjustable dumbbells and a small adjustable weight bench. Do any of you use any adjustable dumbbells btw? I have some powerblocks at my place in WI but am wondering if there is anything else I should try.

I will finish the room off with a wall mounted flat screen, some new blinds, a new ceiling fan, some mirrors on the wall, maybe a few portable foam mats from our new site. And that's about it. I am excited to get it going. Maybe I will post some before and after pics when I get it all done.

My goal is to lose about 15 Lbs in total or if I gain some muscle weight, get down to under 10% body fat at least according to my Tanita body fat scale. Anyone else use those too? I love them and definitely recommend them.

Kurty, that room sounds pretty awesome.

My goal has always been to have something like that. When I eventually do the boxing training I want to do, I think it'd be awesome to have a TV around and stuff I can watch while doing it. Working out is a lot easier when you can multi-task. :D

Yeah I am pumped about it. The hardest part will be getting the directv guys out to wire the room. I wonder what they will want to charge to do that. Oh and btw, if any of you want to do something similar and need some gym flooring, I would be more than happy to hook any of you RealGM folks up with a good discount code to save you all some money. Haven't done a single thing since my boy was born 2 months ago. My boxing career is in tatters. Still eating almonds though.

Would the plyo part be a bad idea for someone with a history of on and off tendonitis?

And if not how much would it disadvantage me to leave it out

It's definitely a bad idea to leap into it without building up slowly. Working towards doing plyo stuff slowly will give your body a chance to tell you if it's up to it. You can always do other stuff anyway.

Having said that I was speaking fairly generally I have no idea what P90X is about at all.

What's nice about P90X is that every workout has modifications. With Plyo they have 3 people doing it along with Tony. When you are first starting out there is no way you can do it 100%. So you modify and work up to the harder level of difficulty. All of the cardio workouts are that way. For the strength workouts you just alter the amount of weight you use.

Does anyone here go a YMCA? I would like to sign up but only to use the basketball courts. Does anyone know if they have like a discounted price strictly for basketball courts? I don't need to use the pool, weights, treadmills, or anything else. Thanks.

Is anyone familiar with both p90x and Insanity?

I live pretty far from my gym and some days I would rather stay home. I have seen some of the p90x DVDs (my brother is in the military and apparently its popular there) and the weight stuff seems like it would be something that could at least change up my usual routine. I already have a set of adjustable dumbells that I got a while back.

However my brother recommended Insanity saying the cardio was a lot more challenging and it would be a bigger departure from my usual workouts.

I was wondering if anyone thought one was better than the other or if it was possible to combine the cardio from Insanity with the weight days of p90x?

The YMCA where I live (Alabama) they have it where it is a one time fee of $180 to use just the basketball courts for a year. $360 for weight room and all that other stuff.

I'm not sure about Insanity, but I heard it's very hard and it works. My dad completed one cycle of P90X and lost something like twenty pounds, but he also changed his diet which of course is more important. If you are looking to get into good shape in terms of cardio and lose weight, I think Insanity would be the way to go. If you are trying to lift weights and get stronger, then P90X would be the way to go. I think weightlifting is overrated, so I would go with Insanity.

I'm not too concerned with losing weight really. Its more about days like tomorrow where driving to the gym in the blizzard is either impractical or just really sucks and it would be pretty convenient to be able to turn on a DVD in my basement and save the time and hassle.
