You're looking at it wrong.
Look, no one's upset that Sasha is gone, all I'm doing is looking at the trade from an outside perspective:
Are the Lakers better off with:
Sasha Vujacic
or
Joe Smith, a $5 MIL trade exception, and Chicago's 2012 Second Round Pick
(Note: I view the swap of LAL's 2011 First and Golden State's 2nd to be a bit of a wash)
Money-wise, yes, it's smart for the Lakers. However, I want as many players as possible to help us win a championship this year. Joe Smith can't outplay Theo Ratliff, and I'd prefer a fifth guard over another (kind of useless) veteran big-man.
I'm just hoping that the $5 MIL trade exception + picks + whoever, can actually get us something useful.
GSW picks is certaintly NOT a wash, it is BETTER....if you have great eye for talent you can essentially get the same talent lvl if not better then the 1st pick we would've had but instead of guranteed money for 3 yrs, this 2nd rd pick has no gurantee at all. GSW Pick will certainly be like the lottery version of the 2nd rd and as we all know there has been some GEM picks over the years that can be found in the 2nd, even later picks then the one we're going to get. As far as money goes I dont think they're going to use the exception, cause just like Sasha he'll be rotting away on the bench wasting Dr. Buss money.
