You're looking at it wrong.

Look, no one's upset that Sasha is gone, all I'm doing is looking at the trade from an outside perspective:

Are the Lakers better off with:

Sasha Vujacic

or

Joe Smith, a $5 MIL trade exception, and Chicago's 2012 Second Round Pick

(Note: I view the swap of LAL's 2011 First and Golden State's 2nd to be a bit of a wash)

Money-wise, yes, it's smart for the Lakers. However, I want as many players as possible to help us win a championship this year. Joe Smith can't outplay Theo Ratliff, and I'd prefer a fifth guard over another (kind of useless) veteran big-man.

I'm just hoping that the $5 MIL trade exception + picks + whoever, can actually get us something useful.

GSW picks is certaintly NOT a wash, it is BETTER....if you have great eye for talent you can essentially get the same talent lvl if not better then the 1st pick we would've had but instead of guranteed money for 3 yrs, this 2nd rd pick has no gurantee at all. GSW Pick will certainly be like the lottery version of the 2nd rd and as we all know there has been some GEM picks over the years that can be found in the 2nd, even later picks then the one we're going to get. As far as money goes I dont think they're going to use the exception, cause just like Sasha he'll be rotting away on the bench wasting Dr. Buss money.

It's a contract year. he is a terrible player except during his contract year, agreed.

The lakers are better off with sasha than joe smith but that's because sasha is in a contract year. I'd take contract year sasha over joe smith but id' take joe smith over a non contract year sasha

Lakers are better simply due the absence of the blackholic getting playing time. Simple as that. For many **** reasons that we all know, but to me the most important thing is that he's not stealing minutes from Brown.

no one would be hating on sasha if he was earning around fisher money (9mil/3 yrs) instead of the 15mil/3yr kupchak gave him

Sasha was always a player with a lot of potential, that was always shot down. Now that he's getting time he's playing well

didn't shed a tear. but man, the look on sasha's face when he was being interviewed by john ireland about the trade, he looked like someone close to him passed away. plus the timing was bad, the guy just recently proposed to his girlfriend. ohh well at least he didn't went to a crappy place and hes getting pt. and I wouldn't be surprised if some team take a chance on sasha this off season.

well when we traded sasha, bynum and theo was out...gasol looked like he was experiencing fatigue and the FO was probably worried odom might be next...so yea we needed a big that time, safe to say the trade was reasonable. plus we have no need for sasha here...we already have barnes, brown, blake, and a young rookie that's showing some potential in ebanks. the only thing that I don't like was we gave up a 1st also.
