Melo with a 3 year/65mil deal would kill any plans that year.

I 100% agree with this and this is why I do not want to trade Felton.

when Melo comes, it throws 2012 out the window. And then what happens when this board has to deal with another Duhon at the point after Billups retires when he gets traded here?

Theoretically, would that still be as far as you'd go if you knew that teh failure to consumate this deal could likely cost you your livelihood (get fired!)?

Yep. It seems to be they are asking that much because they know Carmelo isn't coming back.

I'd take someone that has more of a future here with Melo and Amare in Fields, as a perfect starter at the 2, over holding onto Gallo, if it were between them.....

It makes sense for us moving forward to have Fields here, and Gallo as the guy Denver would realistically take as a 'centerpiece' in a deal... there's not much else to it..... Gallo is the better scorer etc now than Fields, but that's moot cause we'll have Melo and Amare, and out of the two, I like Fields more on that team... we''ll need other contributors to scoring yes, but given the situation, I think this build up with Gallo may be a good thing.... perhaps we'll be able to only have to give up '1 of the 3' if he keeps being acclaimed to such status.

Even then, I know some people would still be bhurt by swapping Gallo for Melo.. bitter.

I still think we are understimating how Denver is using Dolan's eagerness as leverage. As long as they know that they feel they can sell high now. Dolan doesn't have a good poker face and unfortunately he got in the game a little too early with that meeting...

the last thing i am looking at a PG is the number of 20 point games. as a matter of fact, Duhon had some here. he also holds a Knicks' franchise high 22 assists. doesn't mean jack. we need a PG who actually distributes the ball every once in a while. for change.

Hopefully the Timberwolves are still with giving up brewer & since they wanted a little bit more, we throw in TD & 2nd rd pick without having to take Curry.
This way, DEN gets their 3rd starter in Brewer & 1st rd pick from Minny.

Making the trade look more like;

Knicks gets - Billups, Carmelo

Nuggets gets - Felton, Gallo, Brewer, Curry, & 1st rd pick

Timberwolves gets - AR, TD, 2nd rd pick or 2

we can even throw in Azi & Bill Walker to expand the trade & get a PG from Minny if it comes down to it.

sign barron during break.

then we re-sign Chandler & still have 1st rd pick to use on PG & MLE for big man in the off-season.
Do it in a heartbeat. We would have Fields, Melo, Amar'e, & Mozzy along with Chandler as 6th man. & No telling who we can luck up with in the off-season.

Why do the Wolves need to get TD and the 2nd? If they were willing to trade Brewer and a first and eat Curry's deal just to get AR before, wouldn't it make sense that they'd be even more willing to trade Brewer and the first without having to eat Curry's contract?

Really? Cause I can't see Curry, Felton or a first rounder coming in the way...

I assumed it was a comment on the media constantly reporting trade rumors, and he was saying he wasn't going to buy into it.

Of course, it could also have absolutely nothing to do with basketball. He could be talking about society for all we know.

Felton isn't going to Denver. If the goal is the Big 3, Felton needs to go as park of a package for CP3 or Deron. Or if Felton did go it would be with Chandler. Fields, Gallo and Moz would still be Knicks.

worse than the initial offer. why do we take on harrington? why keep felton when you have billups?

Checks & balances. Denver isn't going to get everything they want and neither are the Knicks.

There is no way that NY gives up all those young players and takes back a cap killing contract. If Denver wants NY to take Harrington then Gallo comes out of the deal. If Denver wants Gallo then Harrington comes out of the deal.

Denver can get either talent or cap relief. They have to choose which one they want. Walsh isn't going to give them both.

As other professional negotiators have said in this thread, the main thing is that the side are at the table, so to speak. That's the real news. The names, not so much. The parameters are coming into place and the basic framework of the deal is pretty much settled. All we're doing now is trying to find the "sweet spot' for both sides. In the end each side will give a little and the deal will get done.

good post... the bolded is all i really care about at this point in time... yeah i have my favorites in terms of players... and certainly would prefer to see those guys stay in favor of the players i may not like as much... but the bottom line is that were not handcuffing ourselves moving forward...

everyone is so worried about getting lebron'd again... well im worried about getting marbury'd again... making in deal in which we trade away assets (whether they be player or picks) and also take back less then ideal contracts...

and the reality is that in terms of felton vs billups.. billups is a bad contract... certainly not as bad as a guy like harrington... but if we give up our assets... and billups decides to retire and now allow the knicks to excercise a team option on him... were at a net loss regardless of how you slice it... because with felton wed have the opportunity to extend him or use him in a trade... if billups retires... neither would be possible...

believe me... i want melo as much as the next guy.. and am willing to make concessions to get him... i just dont want to put the team in a position where a retirement or injury or something else could serioously dreail the future...

it is funny you brought that up. because billups is taking less threes than felton. making 45 percent of them compared to felton's 33 percent. and he is actually going to the line which felton never heard of.

I would do that deal as long as the 3rd starter isn't Fields or Moz, but Denver would need to give us Affalo. Obviously Den made that offer anticipating the counter offer, which will probably be either no 3rd starter in the deal or Denver gives up something good in return too. Especially since we are giving them Felton which gives them another piece to get trade value for this summer or next season.
