worse than the initial offer. why do we take on harrington? why keep felton when you have billups?
Checks & balances. Denver isn't going to get everything they want and neither are the Knicks.
There is no way that NY gives up all those young players and takes back a cap killing contract. If Denver wants NY to take Harrington then Gallo comes out of the deal. If Denver wants Gallo then Harrington comes out of the deal.
Denver can get either talent or cap relief. They have to choose which one they want. Walsh isn't going to give them both.As other professional negotiators have said in this thread, the main thing is that the side are at the table, so to speak. That's the real news. The names, not so much. The parameters are coming into place and the basic framework of the deal is pretty much settled. All we're doing now is trying to find the "sweet spot' for both sides. In the end each side will give a little and the deal will get done.
good post... the bolded is all i really care about at this point in time... yeah i have my favorites in terms of players... and certainly would prefer to see those guys stay in favor of the players i may not like as much... but the bottom line is that were not handcuffing ourselves moving forward...
everyone is so worried about getting lebron'd again... well im worried about getting marbury'd again... making in deal in which we trade away assets (whether they be player or picks) and also take back less then ideal contracts...
and the reality is that in terms of felton vs billups.. billups is a bad contract... certainly not as bad as a guy like harrington... but if we give up our assets... and billups decides to retire and now allow the knicks to excercise a team option on him... were at a net loss regardless of how you slice it... because with felton wed have the opportunity to extend him or use him in a trade... if billups retires... neither would be possible...
believe me... i want melo as much as the next guy.. and am willing to make concessions to get him... i just dont want to put the team in a position where a retirement or injury or something else could serioously dreail the future...
