Don't get too excited guys--remember a day before The Decision we were all popping bottles because of the Dudley tweet. Sorry, I was just channeling my inner Pharmcat.

What do you think Walsh would do if he were in the Denver front office?

If wonder if teams going forward, like the Jazz and Hornets, will take a lesson from this situation and deal their outgoing stars (should they make it clear they won't resign) in the summer when they can get the most in return instead of praying a successful half season convinces them to stay. I suppose this is an issue for another thread though.

It's a great question. Honestly, I doubt he'd deal him to the Knicks without it being a homerun. He'd wait it out and force Melo to make a decision.

Is there a way to get the phone number for Denver's FO? I'd love to have a word with them.

Massai Ujiri needs to get his S**T together. How are we supposed to deal with a rookie GM like this. With the wealth of experience Walsh has it must be driving him nuts right now. I think Walsh is going to stay as patient as possible, as Tommy Dee said, and wait for Ujiri to begin sweating bullets. Even though they have more talent than toronto and cleveland Nene can opt out this summer and losing carmelo and Nene would hurt them a lot.

Dealing with the Denver GM is like getting an email saying that a Nigerian prince can't access his untold fortune and if you send $5000 dollars it will be transferred to your bank account.

mpharris36 wrote:You make some very valid points and have a good over all thesis hear. However you are missing one major key is leverage. Carmelo wants to play in NY and the threat of him leaving is to great for denver to just take there chances and let him leave for nothing (examples Toronto and Cavs).

A perfect example of leverage will be Chris Paul and Deron Williams. Right now if you offered them a package of 2 decent young players a matching contract and a few picks they would laugh at you. But come next year when those players are on the last year of there contract they will have the leverage and if they will want to play for so and so team the hornets and jazz will have to lower their demands.

Also the fact of the matter is that the knicks refuse to bid against themselves. Name me one valid team out there that is going after amare? If denver wants to risk losing him for nothing then be may guest but don't send (Please Use More Appropriate Word) trade offers to us when you have no leverage.

I have no idea who else is bidding or what the other offers are. What I do know if an offer consisting of some average players and a late pick isn't that great of a haul for a top 10 player. All I'm saying is I understand why Denver is trying to get as much value as they can for a top 10 player. I realize they have less leverage since Melo is a free agent. But it also appears that they have some leverage since Melo seems to want his $$. Who knows which side will bow out first. But as far as getting nothing back, getting back some average players and a late pick isn't all that. I still think it's better than nothing but not so much better as to where a team is idiotic not to take it.

Here's my take.

Kroenke Sr. is running the show or at worst advising his son.

The minute Denver realized that Melo was genuine about not signing an extension with Denver and any other team. They devised a plan (similar to a marketing plan) . Instead of getting to the specifics I will get to the goal.

Get the most out of the Knicks, Minimize public relations with the Denver fan base and make it crystal clear that we did everything in our power to retain him and get the most we could.

I believe an agreement to a deal with the Knicks has already been reached.

I believe everything reported- that we see- is either perfectly planted OR media planted for the sake of hits, ratings, etc

By the time Melo is traded he will look like the villain in the eyes of Denver fans...

What is up with these misleading thread titles? 65% done? Quoting Hoopsworld? I don't think RealGM makes money off hits on message board threads so I don't get the sansationalism.

I'm hoping you are right ... it is a sensible argument and if the deal goes down as we would like:
20+mil + Chadler + pick + Felton/Billups
it will be proof.

In my mind it is for certain that Kroenke Sr. is running the show. The MO is the same as when they demanded more from the Nyets when they were on the verge of a deal....

I'm starting to believe that there is no way we will keep Gallo out of this deal tho'.
I believe he is the main guy they want... so it might be Gallo instead of Chandler.
Also, I think Knicks might include Walker and another pick.....

Back to your analysis.... Denver FO and management team has to save face and if they villify Melo by making him go the final step and declare he will not sign with anyone but NY; AGAIN ONE LAST TIME!
maybe they believe that the fans will buy it.

If that was the case, why keep floating ridiculous offers if you are going to accept something significantly worse than that?
