Carmelo wants to play in NY and the threat of him leaving is to great for denver to just take there chances and let him leave for nothing (examples Toronto and Cavs).
A perfect example of leverage will be Chris Paul and Deron Williams. Right now if you offered them a package of 2 decent young players a matching contract and a few picks they would laugh at you. But come next year when those players are on the last year of there contract they will have the leverage and if they will want to play for so and so team the hornets and jazz will have to lower their demands.
Also the fact of the matter is that the knicks refuse to bid against themselves. Name me one valid team out there that is going after amare? If denver wants to risk losing him for nothing then be may guest but don't send (Please Use More Appropriate Word) trade offers to us when you have no leverage.

Kroenke Sr. is running the show or at worst advising his son.
The minute Denver realized that Melo was genuine about not signing an extension with Denver and any other team. They devised a plan (similar to a marketing plan) . Instead of getting to the specifics I will get to the goal.
Get the most out of the Knicks, Minimize public relations with the Denver fan base and make it crystal clear that we did everything in our power to retain him and get the most we could.
I believe an agreement to a deal with the Knicks has already been reached.
I believe everything reported- that we see- is either perfectly planted OR media planted for the sake of hits, ratings, etc
By the time Melo is traded he will look like the villain in the eyes of Denver fans...
