Got to say that as crazy as the rumored asking price was towards us, the Wojo-leaked NJN offer is insane!
4 first rounders plus a huge roster turnover for Melo, Billups who will be lonmg gone by the time the team can recover from this trade, and a bunch of shwag players.
Something smells here. Makes NO sense that Nets ownership backed out due to Denver's unreasonable demands to rengage and agree to a deal in which they kick in an extra first round pick.
I'm going to be mad if the Knicks overpay -- but this is a team that is already a 40-45 game winner that figures to become a really formidable out w/ Melo. But the Nets, after this trade, a) won't make the playoffs this year and b) will probably, after the music stops, have made themselves into a 35-40 win team -- and an 8th seed that has one/done written over it for years. Nets will win maybe what 25-30 games this year if they continue with their same lineup. Melo will help but no one player adds 20 or 30 games to a team. Nets fans might point across the Hudson and see that the Knicks are likely to go from 29 wins to 40-45 and say Amar'e did that -- but in truth, Amar'e has been helped a lot by the Knicks drafting the best first-year player in the NBA, upgrading significantly at point, enjoying the growth of Gallo into a more assertive player, continued improvement from Ill Will and recent revelations in the form of Moz and to a lesser extent, Drank.
Just doesn't even seem in the realm of reality for Jersey to entertain this offer. I mean this is NBA version of Herschel Walker trade looming here.
Also would not surprise me to see Wojo on the other end of fictitious leaks from Ujiri. Wojo has been more shite than usual on this story. Weirdest trade saga I've ever seen. Just as happy to keep the baby knicks intact and go for M. Gasol T. Chandler or something not CRAZY in the summer and turn to Paul in 2012.
