Not a bad starting 5 and good 2nd string. I'd do the deal so long as its not both our valuable picks

Surely you jest. If this team played out of its mind, it might have a chance at winning 30 games.

When did I say Harris is a rare find? Firstly, I said that Harris isn't a part of our future, and everybody knows (in fact go to the GB if you want) that Harris is better than Billups at this point. But that's not the point because the first thing I said in that last post is that Harris is not part of our future.

Wow, seriously, no offense but you're an idiot. Nobody is making excuses for Favors, but the fact of the matter is development takes time, it's not just the case for sports, it's the case for everything, everybody needs time to develop, it's how life works. Also, I can't believe you just compared Lebron and Dwight to Favors. Those 2 were the best athletes coming out of college in the history of the NBA, the only one I can maybe agree on is Dwight, because he was raw as hell and he took time to develop, in fact it took him up to his 4th year to average 20-10. Lebron from the get go was touted a phenom. Yes Dwight averaged 12/10 in his rookie year, he also averaged 32 mpg, Favors is averaging under 20 mpg. Tell me, how the hell can you compare the two?

You know what rebuilding did? It got Boston the pieces they needed to trade for KG and Allen (if you want I'll dig up who was traded and what draft pick and year they were taken), it got the Heat Wade and other pieces they need again to trade for Shaq. How do you think LA got Kobe? What about Spurs with Duncan? Shall I carry on, because we can go back to decades of how rebuilding helped win championship teams.

Again you're wrong, firstly the trades were for legitimate MVP candidates like KG. Not Carmelo freakin' Anthony, if we were trading for Paul, Deron etc. I wold be for it. But the fact is Melo will get us NOWHERE. At best we'll get the 5th-6th seed and get knocked out in the 2nd round by one of these superteams. Yes it has brought misery, but it's also brought success to teams, so that's a moot point.

LOL at your understanding of cap space. How are we suppose to get Dwight when we would've spent the majority of our cap space on Melo? Not just that but Brook is due for a big contract, not just that, but we also have a team to fill. So where is the money going to come from to sign Dwight again? You do know that there's this thing called CAP SPACE, which means we have a limit on what we spend on players. Also, funny thing I read, so according to you, all we want as Nets fans from the beginning is to be close to the lux tax, with no flexibility or the cap space to improve our team going up against all these super teams?

Who the hell cares what team in Brooklyn we roll in with? It doesn't matter because at the end of the day that's the talk of a Marketing Manager, not a fan. Also, it's not like we're going to stay in Brooklyn for one year, that'll be our new home, we have time. Again, how are we suppose to get Paul again when we have no assets to trade or cap space to sign him with?

No you're right let's gut this team now and be stuck in mediocrity for the next 5-6 years with no room for improvements. Wonder how that worked out for the Knicks? Or Golden State? Or Washington? Or the Nuggets? Or Memphis?

Ok good then the Harris for Billups swap obviously isn't a big deal.

The only idiot is the one who doesn't expect someone to be offended when being called an idiot? Wanna be mature, yeah didn't think so. The POINT is Favors isn't gonna be an all star. He could be a decent player at best but how the hell is that not worth giving up for Carmelo?

And WOW if you read my post I said what those teams did is rebuild and get the pieces to get KG or Kobe. Which is the EXACT same thing were doing by trading our pieces for Melo. Same concept. That's what you do not wait around for someone to come save the franchise. Melo is arguably the best scorer in the league. He's clearly on a KG type level. And of course hes worth giving up Favors and a few draft picks for. If we want to get to the next level we have to be a 5th or 6th seed first. NO ONE is going to come to a 24 win team.

Newsflash, you're allowed to offer more than one player money. We can easily offer Dwight and Carmelo max contracts. And why the **** is Brook valuable. Let him leave. CAP SPACE can allow us to have two mac players and more. Teams do it all the time. It's not like were pretending to be Miami.

The point is we have to go into Brooklyn strong. We have toi make an impact immediately. I'm tired of this team playing in half empty stadiums. We're not going to be considered legitimate until we fix that. No one in Brooklyn wants to come see Harris or Lopez.

Mediocrity is staying out of the playoffs and thinking the Lakers 2012 pick and Derrick Favors are somehow going to lead us to a championship. Franchises like the Timberwolves and Kings have been sucking for years. How far has it got them?

That's a tough question the way you worded it.

It forces me to take cap into consideration which isnt what you want me to say. What you want me to say I assume is...age, upside, potential building block.

If I threw out cap...I would still want, Lebron, Wade, Paul, Deron, Durant over him. Not many more after that. Dwight is such a dominat defensive force that despite his overrated offensive offense he is still a top shelf player. Plus...starting a franchise also includes marketing value. He is such a likeable personality.

If I included cap...John Wall and Griffin zoom up my list....and that is something people neglect when they pose that question.

You know what's funny? People read my extremely fair and honest views on Dwight but his enormous populairty make people think I said I dont like him. I do. I like Dwight A LOT. Hell...I like Melo a lot. I just call it as I see it. Some guys get too much love and some don't get enough. Doesnt mean they arent all in the pool of greatness.

Dwight is a nice player but he's no alpha male. If we have one of the above-mentioned superstars, then he'll definitely fit in nicely and will make the team seriously compete...

Word on the street says that (if and) when the Melo deal is complete, we're looking to shed salary in order to be a player in the off-season this year.

If that's true, the only way that we can truly be a player in the offseason is to somehow improve our team before the free agency begins in order to entice FAs to come. If we're shedding salary now, then we're not acquiring guys (who are reported to be available) like Gerald Wallace and are most likely sticking with the players that we have.

In order to accomplish are present goals of shedding salary for the current season and our summer goal of being a player in FA, that almost definitely assures us that we're going for the highest pick (which also has the highest trade value) we can get in the draft. And then we'll be combining our draft picks with current players to try to trade for better players, who will make coming to NJ/Brooklyn more enticing. This is exactly what I've been pushing for so barring any colossal changes to Melo going to the Knicks, it looks like management we'll be doing what many of us have been pushing for. :D

Also, if we're shedding salary, hopefully we'll be looking to get rid of Outlaw even though it may be next to impossible to do so.

I'm actually quite pleased with our involvement these past few days. We got the Knicks to trade away 60% of their starters + other players the fans were fond of. Plus we still have all of our assets and will probably have a few former knicks (to torment knicks fans) and it'll only cost us the icks we got for Terrence Williams. Bravo, Prokhorov.

I wouldn't be trumpeting anyone until I see the damn picks we're supposedly shipping out to 1) get rid of King's mistake in Murphy and 2) get rid of Avery's mistake in Outlaw or Harris

Those two potential deals have nothing to do with the 'Melo Saga. Of course things haven't been finalized, but if it does end up the way I said it would than we as fans have nothing to complain about.

OK fair enough, like I said in another post I didn't mean to call you an idiot, I just overreacted due to the frustrations of repeating myself and other members here over and over again. Again I'd like to apologise for that.

Now back to the topic, you say Favors is going to be a decent player at best. What exactly are you basing this on? And yes, I wouldn't trade a great SCORER for him.

It's not the same concept because firstly, we don't have a superstar for Melo to play as second fiddle to, which is his best chance of getting a ring. Again, look at our roster, Melo will get us nowhere. Also, you can't compare KG to Melo or even Melo to Kobe, it's absurd, the other two are great players, not just great scorers. He's not on a KG type level, KG can get you 20-10 with great post D and a decent presence down the paint, decent passer, as well as some intangible assets. All Melo gives is scoring, the rest of his game is suspect. And lastly, the main problem with your idea of "in order to contend we have to be a 5th or 6th seed first" is that once this trade happens, how are we suppose to improve? We'll have no cap space, no players to move, the best we can get are picks that are outside the lottery and 2nd round picks to improve the team. Tell me, how the hell are we suppose to contend with the superteams is this trade happens?

And how are we suppose to get Dwight? Sign him outright you say? With Melo and hypothetically Dwight eating up 35% each of our cap who would fill out the rest of the roster? Bare in mind we've already overpayed for Outlaw as well as having other contracts in place already. Brook is valuable because he's a young player with a great post game with upside, that's why he has value.

No we don't have to make an immediate impact straight off the bat, it's going to be our home for the next 30+ years. I mean look at the early 00s when we got back-to-back EFC. We were playing in empty stadiums arenas, but that didn't stop us from getting to the NBA Finals. Like I said you're talking like you are in charge of marketing for the Nets, not a fan.

No, mediocrity is pretending. So basically the 6th seed-8th seed is mediocrity, because they're not good enough to win championships, yet they're not bad enough to get themselves in good drafting positions to improve the team. You bring out the Kings and Wolves, ok what about the Thunder? They were sucking not that many years ago. What about Portland? You and I know if it wasn't for injuries this team could've been dangerous. Same goes for the Magic, before Howard they were abysmal even with T-Mac on the team.

While I dont want Melo for what it would cost us and the cap flexibility wer would lose...

I dont think we should be over celebrating the Knicks getting him. They HAVE a star to go with him...and they could end up creating the cap space in a year that we couldnt. And while they wont have trade assets beyond Biillups contract in a year...they could have 2 signed stars and cap room to go shopping with, Now, I havent done the math or looked closely....but they could have more flexibility that we have is my point. Yes, they will still have a lot of needs...but 3 big players and a blank slate is better than Melo, Brook and all the crap we would still have hanging around. That's all I am saying.

I'm not at all happy the knicks are getting Melo, but I'll be thrilled to death if it means they lose Walsh.
