The only idiot is the one who doesn't expect someone to be offended when being called an idiot? Wanna be mature, yeah didn't think so. The POINT is Favors isn't gonna be an all star. He could be a decent player at best but how the hell is that not worth giving up for Carmelo?
And WOW if you read my post I said what those teams did is rebuild and get the pieces to get KG or Kobe. Which is the EXACT same thing were doing by trading our pieces for Melo. Same concept. That's what you do not wait around for someone to come save the franchise. Melo is arguably the best scorer in the league. He's clearly on a KG type level. And of course hes worth giving up Favors and a few draft picks for. If we want to get to the next level we have to be a 5th or 6th seed first. NO ONE is going to come to a 24 win team.
Newsflash, you're allowed to offer more than one player money. We can easily offer Dwight and Carmelo max contracts. And why the **** is Brook valuable. Let him leave. CAP SPACE can allow us to have two mac players and more. Teams do it all the time. It's not like were pretending to be Miami.
The point is we have to go into Brooklyn strong. We have toi make an impact immediately. I'm tired of this team playing in half empty stadiums. We're not going to be considered legitimate until we fix that. No one in Brooklyn wants to come see Harris or Lopez.
Mediocrity is staying out of the playoffs and thinking the Lakers 2012 pick and Derrick Favors are somehow going to lead us to a championship. Franchises like the Timberwolves and Kings have been sucking for years. How far has it got them?
OK fair enough, like I said in another post I didn't mean to call you an idiot, I just overreacted due to the frustrations of repeating myself and other members here over and over again. Again I'd like to apologise for that.
Now back to the topic, you say Favors is going to be a decent player at best. What exactly are you basing this on? And yes, I wouldn't trade a great SCORER for him.
It's not the same concept because firstly, we don't have a superstar for Melo to play as second fiddle to, which is his best chance of getting a ring. Again, look at our roster, Melo will get us nowhere. Also, you can't compare KG to Melo or even Melo to Kobe, it's absurd, the other two are great players, not just great scorers. He's not on a KG type level, KG can get you 20-10 with great post D and a decent presence down the paint, decent passer, as well as some intangible assets. All Melo gives is scoring, the rest of his game is suspect. And lastly, the main problem with your idea of "in order to contend we have to be a 5th or 6th seed first" is that once this trade happens, how are we suppose to improve? We'll have no cap space, no players to move, the best we can get are picks that are outside the lottery and 2nd round picks to improve the team. Tell me, how the hell are we suppose to contend with the superteams is this trade happens?
And how are we suppose to get Dwight? Sign him outright you say? With Melo and hypothetically Dwight eating up 35% each of our cap who would fill out the rest of the roster? Bare in mind we've already overpayed for Outlaw as well as having other contracts in place already. Brook is valuable because he's a young player with a great post game with upside, that's why he has value.
No we don't have to make an immediate impact straight off the bat, it's going to be our home for the next 30+ years. I mean look at the early 00s when we got back-to-back EFC. We were playing in empty stadiums arenas, but that didn't stop us from getting to the NBA Finals. Like I said you're talking like you are in charge of marketing for the Nets, not a fan.
No, mediocrity is pretending. So basically the 6th seed-8th seed is mediocrity, because they're not good enough to win championships, yet they're not bad enough to get themselves in good drafting positions to improve the team. You bring out the Kings and Wolves, ok what about the Thunder? They were sucking not that many years ago. What about Portland? You and I know if it wasn't for injuries this team could've been dangerous. Same goes for the Magic, before Howard they were abysmal even with T-Mac on the team.
