Or I'd trade Beasley, but it would limit what else I'd include.

I honestly don't see a basketball reason not to make a trade for one of the 2nd tier SG stars. However, Taylor probably won't pony up the money, so that's that.

I think there are basketball reasons that a trade isn't likely/possible, but I guess you're correct if you're saying there's no reason not to try.

Wolves missed the boat on Kevin Martin, now he's in Houston where Morey seems to revere him. The thought of Kahn potentially dealing with Morey also terrifies me.

Sixers supposedly turned down a Batum/useful expiring (Przybilla) package for Iggy way back when they were shopping him. Batum's a better piece than Wes, and now that the Sixers are competitive, I'm not sure a mid 1st and/or Flynn tips the scales for Philly. That could be good news, maybe it means Turner will be available this summer.

Monta's a similar situation. There was probably a chance to deal for him last summer around the time Al was traded. He doesn't seem available at the moment.

A 2nd tier star doesn't seem all that available at this point in time. The most likely options are probably from the OJ Mayo/JR Smith tier. I don't know how many actual solutions look to be available right now.

I was speaking from the Wolves' perspective. I can see why other teams may not be looking to trade their players.

Monta is a guy that I think might be available, but his price has definitely gone up a lot from last summer.

Mayo is probably the realistic SG upgrade to target, but somehow I don't see the Wolves doing it.

I expect nothing else of note trade-wise before the deadline from the Wolves. I guess there's a long shot that we could see something around draft time. Shrug.

I only commented because I see a ton of posts asserting things like "we should have dealt for Iggy when we had the chance", when I'm not sure there was ever really a chance. It isn't just about not striking when the iron was hot, or Glen Taylor not being willing to spend.

If the Wolves have all 3 picks, I think there will definitely be a deal made at the draft, even if it's just rolling a pick or two over to the next year, like the Lawson deal.

I think Mayo has been targeted by the Wolves, I'm less certain that Memphis has set his price at something the Wolves would be amenable to.

I don't see much happening by the deadline, but if they can find a way to flip Curry for something of use, more power to them.

I'd do Gordon/Wilcox for Curry/Pek (separate deals).

Probably. I meant a significant trade to obtain a produtive veteran. The "signature move." I should have been more clear.

Really? What makes you say that?

Really? What makes you say that?

http://www.cbssports.com/nba/story/1448 ... mberwolves
CBSSports.com has learned that the Wolves plan to make a push to acquire Memphis guard O.J. Mayo, whose rights they traded to the Grizzlies on draft night in 2008 in the deal that brought Love to Minnesota. Mayo is frustrated coming off the bench in Memphis and "needs a change," according to one person familiar with the situation. The Wolves envision Mayo playing in the backcourt next season alongside Rubio, who according to a person familiar with the situation has given team officials his word that he will join the Wolves next season. The buyout that Minnesota must pay FC Barcelona is down to $1 million, but it's not clear how Rubio's decision could be affected by a lockout. Even if Rubio comes to Minnesota, there's no guarantee he'll thrive immediately.

Sources say the Wolves also are targeting Anthony Randolph, who is languishing on the Knicks' bench after being acquired from Golden State as part of the sign-and-trade arrangement that landed David Lee in the Bay Area. Minnesota officials will not part with Ridnour in the deal, according to an executive familiar with the team's strategy, but instead hope that Telfair would be enough to solve the Knicks' backup point guard dilemma.

One of the same articles that linked the Wolves to Randolph earlier. Obviously not conclusive evidence, but it makes sense, and Berger was one of the first to report Brewer's involvement in the Melo trade. Zgoda also tried to take the pulse of Minny fans on Mayo with his Twitter account shortly after he did the same with Randolph.

That the Wolves would have interest in Mayo passes the smell test, and if the price Memphis had set were amenable to the Wolves, my guess is a deal would have been made.

Maybe the price for Mayo will go down in the off-season.

I like that OJ Mayo used performance enhancing drugs. It shows that he's motivated to make it in the league.

Perhaps Curry can still be dealt for multiple players/with others in the Carmelo deal? Maybe the deal is being held up til tomorrow to give Kahn added flexibility in shopping the expiring contract.

I think getting Mayo would be a really nice addition. If he could develop some skills here it could be a huge boost to our roster. He can create off the dribble, has a nice jumper and showed at USC he can d up when he wants to...

Kosta Koufos headed to Denver. More capspace next year, woohoo!

Kosta to Denver is in this Melo deal, #Timberwolves will be getting a 2015 second-round pick as well.

@JerryZgoda Jerry Zgoda
Kahn also said he doesn't expect Randolph to develop much of a role this late in season, but that will come next season. #Timberwolves

Does anyone know when the press conference will be, if there is one at all? I like hearing stuff from the players themselves.

And Mayo makes more sense in the offseason. See how the draft plays out and the CBA, then maybe make a move for him if the price is right.

I'd say they might have a short interview online, but probably won't air the press conference. But I've been wrong before...

Even if it's just Ballow talking to him in the halls like he did with Webster and Beasley, I'll take it.

Got to see his smile before I can support him!
