Some of you are severly discounting Courtney Lee. He isn't a stud, but he really isn't bad at anything. He is athletic, can shoot, can pass, and most importantly with your coach....can defend. Most late round picks are specialists and can do one thing well, but suck at other things. Lee is good all around and is still young (not saying he will get a lot better but it means you can plug him in for a while). So everyone saying 2 late first round picks is fair value for him....sorry but it really isn't. Especially not in this draft. I would be shocked if a player as good as Lee will be available at the 26th or 28th spots in this draft, especially one who can be as good as Lee immediately.
The Charlotte pick is better value but you guys seem to be overvaluing that pick. I'm not saying it isn't fair value for Lee, but that pick may not come until 3-4 years from now. Getting that pick alone doesn't really help the Rockets right now, so why would we give up a quality young SG for that?
If the Rockets are going to try to sneak into the playoffs now then we need size. If we are going to blow it up and rebuild then we need high picks right now, not near 2nd rounders or picks that may not come for years.
I just don't think the teams have what is needed to help each other.
I appreciate your perspective. Despite the last line in your post, what would you be accepting of from the Bulls in a trade for Lee?
Asik, Bogans (for depth), Charlotte pick?
I wouldn't be pissed at the team if they got the Charlotte pick and one of those other late 1st rounders. I would probably even be ok with the Charlotte pick alone, but the only thing is that pick may not come for a while so who knows when that will help us. Since Lee is still young and under contract, I'm not sure I would want to give him away and make the team weaker now for an unknown asset sometime down the line.
What we really need is some size, but it makes complete sense why you don't trade a big for a small. With that being said, I do think your team is a solid SG away from really competing.
