But when you have a wide open layup, you need to take the shot... Maybe you get fouled... Either way, that's the smart play.
They were losing...

Right, by 1 point... The Celtics thrive on slowing the game down and controlling the tempo. With around 2 min left, I could see them trying to run down the clock and rely on their D to get stops.
But again, if you have a wide open lay-up, you take it and let the clock work itself out.

Seriously though, I'll never really like Rondo as a PG until he proves that the best strategy against him isn't playing way off him and letting him miss wide open jumpers...
If he ever learns how to stick open jumpers, he's elite. Simple as that.

I heard a few weeks ago how Mike Miller refused to hoist half court shot to maintain a good FG% (shot it after the buzzer and it went in), how Javale Mcgee got his triple double and now this @#!@#% happened to a PG of a championship contender. This is just disturbing to me. If an NBA player step in to the floor worrying what his stats are going to look like at the end of the game, I'd suggest him to go to hell for ruining the sport that I love.

Really no need for green font there.

YES, Tony Allen is behind you, YES you are a poor free throw shooter, YES you are not a strong finisher. But not going for the layup allowed the grizzlies to get back on defense and completely halt any fast break opportunity you had.

does he pass up layups for assists?.... yes
but in this video clip i think he just had a bad first dribble and never had good control of the ball to take it in for a layup attempt. would he have gotten control if he was determined to take it in for a score the whole time?...maybe.
all that being said. it's easy to take apart a player when they're slumping. rondo is still a top 5-7 pg in the league, and is an all star for a reason.
