Not to mention he's been hurt. If say, Ray Allen didn't fall and was running right there behind him, Rondo would have passed it out for a probable assist and this would all go away.
Why does anyone bother going to the rim at all. Everyone should just shoot 3's from halfcourt since there are no defenders to contest there.
It's not that there were defenders there, it's that he was setting himself up for a bad layup attempt because either a) he was thinking pass-first assuming someone was behind him which slowed him down and hurt his momentum going to the basket or b) he just lost control of the ball a little bit while dribbling down the court. Maybe both. Both ARE his fault but it's just highly exaggerated in this thread.
It's also the fact that it's Rondo. He's a small guy who's vulnerable to getting blocked, especially when 2 guys are creeping up behind him, and he was having a bad game. He could have pretty likely either gotten blocked or fouled, and he's very bad at free throws.
Like I said, if someone actually WAS open behind him and they hit a shot/layup/dunk, this wouldn't even be talked about. It's just the way Rondo plays, he's PASSIVE. Yeah sometimes a little too passive but not some stat padder or a coward.
