There needs to be at least some rational for this type of move...and Bargnani straight up for a top 5 pick would not be equal value for the Kings. As a Raps fan though, I do think that Sacramento and Toronto could work out a good trade that works for the two teams.
Toronto Trades: Bargnani + Bayless + future second round pick
Sacramento Trades: 2011 First Round pick (unprotected) + Thompson + Garcia (or Udrih?)
Why for Toronto:The real value of course for the Raptors is in the draft pick, but adding Thompson would bring a big back in order to fill out the front court rotation. Based on what I have been reading from Sacramento (blogs and message boards), Thompson seems expendable for them. Garcia (or Udrih) would be taken in the deal to take a less then ideal contract off of Sacramento's hands.
Why for Sacramento:Bargnani certainly has his weaknesses, but he also has a lot of strengths that he does bring to a team. And if paired with the right front court partner he could really be a benefit. Cousins and Bargnani could be a huge front-court with a lot of potential. Cousins would be free to operate in the paint while leaving Bargnani as a floor spacer to drain open shots. Cousins has the rebounding to make-up for that deficiency in Bargnani, and Bargs could be a better defender against PF as opposed to the Centers he has to guard now who overpower him
Bayless also provides Sacramento with a young PG who is a good shooter, but tends to over dribble. With Tyreke being the primary ball handler for the Kings, this would allow Bayless to play a role similar to Barbosa (but with capable defense).
Thoughts? Any changes that could be made to make it more fair for the two sides?
