1) Samsung Epic™ 4G

2) HTC EVO™ 4G

Thoughts?

Thanks,
--Mags

P.S. The new lines of Android Phones won't be an option for her (for me yes, but not her).

I went through the same thing 4 months ago. The EVO is the better device. Literally the same exact debate. Do not let the specs full you. Sammy may have the SAMOLED screen, but the difference is negligible. Its interface is alot friendlier than Samsung's touch wiz which will make it easier on her. In addition, the phone feels a lot sturdier in the hand. The samsung feels like cheap plastic imo. If she needs the keyboard then consider the Epic. If not, the EVO is the superior device.

AndroidMan wrote:If its between those 2 devices, then it's no contest. Epic 4g hands down.

Humingbird processor(epic) is much better then the snapdragon found on the evo. Your mom may not do any gaming, but the graphics embedded chip on the evo is utter crap. The epic has a much better screen. I believe the epic comes preinstalled with Swype. Has a better camera.

Touchwiz's interface is fine. Also, Samsung devices support almost all video formats. Try loading a 720p mkv on it and it will play flawlessly. Pure sex with the samoled display.

I've had friends on Sprint ask me the same questions months ago and I directed them towards the epic. My answer has still not changed, although these days I'd recommend waiting for some dual core beast. The Galaxy S 2 is not too far away from being released, nor is the Nexus S 4g.

 Two differing opinions. :D

Combo, yeah I saw that too...the HTC is REALLY built for speed and userbility via the interface (even it's predecessor the Shift and Hero aren't as "stocked" as it is).

Android, yeah that's why I'm leaning towards the Epic as it'll last a little bit longer and has a better screen. The HTC is at the peak of its Product Lifecycle right now. With the Epic she gets the more Battery friendly Hummingbird Processor combined with a Battery friendly GPU. And with her job (non-Office), the ability to not have to recharge as often as she would with the HTC (which has a 6 Hr Battery life I believe) would be a VERY nice edge.

Some more thoughts on this from you guys (or others) would be great. Thanks! :)

Kanye definitely impressed me with that verse. My favorite is "for every inch they cut the nose off the Sphinx...I make the jeweler add a few more links"

Talib and Consequence did their thing too as expected. "Figuratively, quite literally, clinically insane!"

I always used to skim that song but the more i listened to it and fully understood the lyrics I was in awe. I agree Consequence and Talib were great too.

Problem is that Walker actually thinks he is. :P

So I have a free month of netflix (just started two days ago) and I love it. Do you guys think it's worth it to continue to use it after the month is up? I'd only use the streaming one so it's $8 per month I think.

Yeah I have Netflix and I love it! I think eventually they'll do video games too which is sweet.

Mags,

You can't go wrong with either phone for your mom. They are both beasts. However, Androidman, your argument is a bit flawed. Both of these phones are single core. Yes, the hummingbird is theoretically faster, but its not going to make a difference. All the apps currently out now run just as well or better on the EVO. Do you really think they're going to come out with intensive apps that will run on the epic and not on the EVo? With dual core being released, all Single Core phones will be abandoned when it comes to optimization. The superiority of the processor is really a non-factor in the decision process. Moreover the Evo is going be getting Gingerbread. I'm not even sure if the Epic has froyo yet

Evo pros:

-Sense > Touchwiz (majority agree
-Evo's build is better
- Kickstand

Epic Pros:
-keyboard
-brighter screen

Sense is SO overrated. I have it and I'm unimpressed. Can't wait to get rid of this crappy phone.

They're about the same. Neither has the edge in that category. Evo catches for flac for it because it was the first 4G phone on the market and a flagship. Tests have been done by both engadget and Cnet and they get the same life. Personally, I use my phone pretty heavily (syncing 2 email accounts constantly, wifi on, 100% brightness screen, checking email/facebook/web browsing almost continiously in class) and I get about 5.5 solid hours before I charge. Yeah, that's pretty bad, but I've been able to get a full day by turning stuff off.

Battery life is a total bitch on the Evo. I had to turn off 4G, set it to the lowest possible brightness setting that allows for visibility, and root the damn phone just so that I could underclock the CPU using SetCPU. My phone BARELY makes it through a day with substantial talking and 3G internet use.

Don't know why this won't embedd. It's Vin Baker coaching 9th grade white boys in Long Island. I'm pretty sure this is the worst half-time speech in the history of 9th grade boys basketball. Painful to watch.
