Impressive.
I watched an Australian football game the other day, and they played on a huge round field. Also it seemed like some of the passes went forward instead of lateral or behind. I thought that was illegal.
In America we just borrow a football or soccer field.
Ha. Yeh you can kick it any way you'd like. It's a great game to watch, I go most weeks. Also, just for the record, a few of the Pacers-Bulls series of the late 90's (sorry I had to bring them up) were heavily screened in Australia at the time, and so the Pacers became well-known. Personally, I watched the game when Reggie Miller scored 57 against Charlotte in '92 at age 4 and was hooked.

I'm originally from country Victoria where AFL (australian football) is king, queen and any other superlative you care to name. During winter it is the focus, especially in smaller towns, funnily enough it's probably easily compared to the way small towns and high school basketball is/was in rural Indiana. Basically New South Wales and Queensland are rugby states, and the rest of the country is aussie rules. The two games are very different, most foreigners I've met assume AFL is some local version of rugby for some reason

.
And jarryd is spot on about the 90s, basketball and the NBA in particular was a lot bigger here then, I became a Reggie fan watching the (I think) 94 playoffs when I was 10.
As for Vogel, I'm not sure if he is the best available, but for various reasons other people have spelled out I think he is certainly amongst the (presumed) front runners for the job.
