TPE can be used by the team to absorb a contract, but they cannot be dealt to another team. Correct?
Could (hypothetically)
Cle
Out-4th pick, TPE (to absorb Iggy)
In- 2nd pick
Philly
Out-Iggy
In-Cap+ minor compensation
MN
Out-2nd
In- 4th and Iggy
So Clev uses the cap to bring in Iggy's contract?
Or could we just cut Clev out and offer Philly a cap friendly situation for Iggy?
No, this would not work. Since we have only about 1 mil of cap left and no significant TPE we would have to 125% match any salary we would take on in a draft day trade. Cleveland could use its big TPE to take on Iggy for the #4, but that TPE cannot be moved to another team.
Iggy has a 2010 cap figure of $12,345,250. We would have to send out at least 9,796,200 in any trade bringing him to Minnesota before a new CBA is hammered out (next cap year). That would have to include Webster, Darko or Pek, and Hayward or Ellington at a minimum.
if you are formulating Iggy to Minny trades you have to come up with at least 9,796,200 using a comination of:
Michael Beasley 4,962,240
Martell Webster 4,800,000
Darko Milicic 4,325,000
Nikola Pekovic 4,275,000
Luke Ridnour 4,000,000
Wesley Johnson 3,726,600
Johnny Flynn 3,192,000
Anthony Tolliver 2,200,000
Anthony Randolph 1,965,720
Wayne Ellington 1,078,800
Lazar Hayward 1,020,960
Those guys, plus Kevin Love, are our players whose salaries are tradeable on draft day (Rubio would count as Zero salary).
How about #2, Martell, Pek, and Flynn for Iguodala/Speights. That one works.
Danny Granger has a 2010 salary of $10,973,202.
We'd need to send out 8,698,561. So something like #2/Pek/Flynn/Hayward.
This is the downside to the curry/randolph trade that I was warning you guys about at the trade deadline. We lost all cap flexibility for any draft day trades. I think Randolph is probably more valuable than that raw cap space, but any team giving us the big salaried youngish veteran we are targeting is not only going to have to take salary back, but probably take on at least 3 guaranteed contracts. For the Lakers that might not be a problem. For Philly/Indy/Milwaukee there is significant downside to that.
