I've got to go with prime Gil.
I'm a huge gilbert arenas homer myself, but not even close. Only thing that Arenas did better than Rose did this year is shoot and well I'm sorry Rose did EVERYTHING else better. Defense, running the offense, even finishing around the rim..... Rose was an MVP this season and I get tired of people saying it was a weak MVP season. Rose would of beat out Nash in 2 of 3 of his MVP seasons IMO.
Hard to call it a weak MVP season when you have great performances from LeBron, Dwight and Durant.
I think Rose is a great player, but he should not have won MVP this year. The MVP was Lebron or Dwight. Rose is a similar MVP to Nash -- good story; little guy who does amazing things. But, good as he was, Lebron and Dwight are better, and more valuable. Rose for MVP became a meme pretty early, and the media voted for the story they wanted to tell, not for the best player.
As for Arenas vs. Rose -- I'd take prime Arenas on the offensive end, and Rose on defense. Rose's edge on defense is bigger than Gil's edge on offense, so overall, Rose is the better player. Prime Gil was an amazing offensive weapon, though.
