Doug: If Knights not there then its Bismack

Post#1 » by RocLaFamilia » Thu Jun 23, 2011 2:00 pm

Not too many of the Henchmen were around yesterday at the other of texts or e-mails and Bryan tends to go far under cover in the final hours before the draft so to suggest there was any new insight is a bit of a stretch.

But the one name I heard linked to these guys more than any other – and not just from people here, either – was Bismack Biyombo, the raw 19-year-old Congo kid.

And if you think of it, maybe going with a big guy and someone young and full of potential is the way to go.

It’s a young group anyway, not likely going to contend for anything other than relative mediocrity next year and another young big, given the alternatives, makes sense.

Now, I’ll say that if Brandon Knight falls to No. 5 – and it would most likely only happen if Utah takes Kanter at No. 3 – they’ll snap him up but of the group that’s likely to be there, why not take a shot at Biyombo, a 6-9 bit of an energetic beast.

This I heard, and it’s paraphrased, about Biyombo from a friend last night who got it from the GM of the team he covers:

“His offensive game isn’t nearly as bad as I was led to believe. Good footwork, just needs coaching.”

Since when does Weems bring any kind of defense to the court anyway?

I had the feeling this was how it would play out. We want Knight, or else we're going for the guy with the highest upside defensively. As a fan of taking Biyombo myself, that's good news to hear (assuming this potential back issue isn't a concern... haven't seen any confirmation of it from other sources, just the bit by Feldman), but I'd be fine with any of Knight/Biyombo/Val.

Yeah, if you look at other vids, his offense doesn't even look that bad (not that it could be any worse than what we saw at the Adidas camp)

I am really happy if we land Brandon Knight. Kinda happy if we get Biyombo. Big men usually take longer to develop so this will be a 2 yrs project IMO with Bismack.

I don't know I like upside and all, but I also want a sure thing. What I am hearing about Val is both... If we get Knight I hope BC could get another pick for one of these two guys (BB/Val)

Why does nobody mention that he's a 6'9 C? I know he has a massive wingspan, but the guy's still 6'9.

Yup, we kinda already knew it would be Knight if not available then Biyombo, i have no problem with this scenerio. People who are talking trash about Biyombo really dont know how he plays or seen his clips, he was a man amoung boys againt the 'highly touted' 2012 draft class!! Made Anthony Davis look like a little school boy.

So if we was 6'10" it would be ok?

If there's any year to take a Valunciunas, this is it - we don't need him right away since we're in the midst of a rebuild, it's a terrible draft & there could very well be a lockout next year. It would suck to wait a year for him to come over though.
