I don't think Kirilenko is a stretch at all. They have very similar styles except Kirilenko was a better passer. Kirilenko was fortunate enough to play in Sloan's disciplined UCLA offense where there are plenty of off-the-ball screens. If Vesely is to thrive in DC, we need guys to set better picks.
I agree he would be good out there with Seraphin or Booker as they set the best screens. One big question is going to be, how much different will Seraphin look. He was very athletic and strong but he didnt come into camp with his body right because he fought that knee injury over the summer. Seraphin showed he put in the work on a nice baby hook around the hoop game. Those players bring the muscle and strength that Jan may lack. And if Dray is right, so does he.
I could see Singleton getting the most minutes of the rookies right off the bat. He is the most veritable and with the most NBA ready skill - defense. Mack will get spot minutes ever few games. Singleton will likely get some burn every game. And they will work Jan is but I dont think he plays every game. With this team so young, they have plenty to look at without feed lots of minutes to Mack and Jan.
This next season, if we have one, is going to be about evaluating what they already had here last year. They have to learn more about Craw, Booker, Dray, Seraphin, McGee and Hamady and of that list Seraphin and Hamady are big questions. They have to figure out those two players so they can move forward.
Wall/Craw/Mack
Nick/Craw/Mack
Booker/Singleton/Jan
Dray/Lewis/Seraphin/Jan
McGee/Seraphin/Hamady
I would like to see another guard that can shoot but I'm not sure pure evaluation and losing isn't the way to go right now. They really need to look at what they have and they could use another high pick. Mack is a winner which is good but I thought we needed a pure shooter instead.
There is no reason to start Lewis since he isn't likely part of the longer term and now with Singleton and Jan here, we don't need Lewis eating up a lot of minutes at SF. Specially if the knee isnt right. Singleton or Jan won't start. That leaves Booker for now. He can eventually back up SF and PF.
Dray is the starting PF for 32-34 minutes so that leaves 14-16 minutes to play Lewis and see what Seraphin and Booker can do there also. I know people have Seraphin as a back up center but he should also be tried at PF so he can back that up.
Then we need to figure out of Hamady can back up at center. And as alway, evaluate Dray and McGee. At a min, showcase what he can do so he has value in a trade.
I think this team is going to be pretty bad unless we see some serious growth from Booker, Seraphin, Hamady, Dray and McGee. I say let it roll. Don't add vets. See what you have and develop who you can. Then get another top draft pick. This thing is fair from finished. There is likely going to need to be a complete make over by trading, etc.
