Rumor: Kobe forced to share Lakers with Bynum?
Before the lockout, the Lakers informed Bryant, one of the game’s great players, he was no longer the team's undisputed top dog. Bryant was then informed he’d share this role with Andrew Bynum.

Bynum, when healthy, is a top center. His play during the second half of last season was superb. Bynum, however, is fragile, spending significant time on injured reserve.

Then there’s the optics of sharing. Bryant wouldn’t share with the most dominant player in NBA history, Shaquille O’Neal, and instead engaged in a feud that broke up a dynasty.

Why would he share with Bynum, a still unproven entity? Well, he won’t.

Bryant has recently been silent. He hasn’t commented on the lockout, the hiring of Mike Brown or anything Laker-related since losing to the Dallas Mavericks in the second round of the playoffs.

His silence is powerful. Bryant knows Jim Buss pushed Phil Jackson - his friend, mentor, and coach – out. Bryant knows Jim Buss hired Brown, in part, because he’d increase Bynum’s role. And Bryant knows Bynum is Jim Buss’ guy.

The Lakers are Bynum’s team now

Yes, aging star Kobe Bryant will still be a part of the equation, but he was put on notice over the summer when Jim Buss hired new coach Mike Brown without so much as a brief discussion with Bryant.

The message is clear: Brown is Bynum’s coach, and the team belongs to the young center as well.

“It’s obvious that that is what’s going on,” said one longtime Lakers insider. “Jim Buss is setting up Drew.”

Reading the second link leads me to one opinion, Jim Buss has no idea what he's doing.

this is something that slowly needed to happen, but kobe wasn't exactly being a team player about it in his exit interview where he declared that bynum had to fall in line.

What? Bynum isn't even better than Pau Gasol and arguably Odom is as important as him so I don't get this talk at all. Yeah, he should get more touches but no way in hell is he going to command the lockerroom and be the top dog, that isn't just given to you, you earn it.

When are you guys going to stop believing tabloid reporting ? It's nothing credible about that story, ......it's a damn blog story. Hell I could write the exact opposite.

I'm not going to over react to everything Jim does, if Jerry is too senile to sense what may be going on then he and the Buss family deserves everything bad that will come along with the franchise failing.

Drew has to be smart enough to know he HASN'T put in enough equity to be established as the top dog or top billing for the chise just yet. Once he puts in enough work and his body of work is impeccable and can't be disputed, then we can anoint him as top dog.

And last, I could give a damn if Kobe hasn't "endorsed" or signed off on Brown's hiring. Bottom line the franchise did exactly what he recommended in his exit meeting. It was no damn secret that we needed a defensive minded coach. And after letting the whole situation sink in Brown was the man for this job, not some damn low achieving coach like Adelman who hasn't won when it counted and is nothing more than a tired ass retread. Kobe can stay silent all he want's.

Jim manned up and admitted he was wrong for not calling Kobe, so at least it shows he can acknowledge his mistakes. And as far as Phil......there was no "forcing out", Dr.Buss has another contract in mind for him and wanted him signed to one even before last season even started.

Dr.Buss was fine with Phil going another year or two, all this crap about him wanting to move away from the Triangle is BS. All ODB has ever said that if Phil wasn't the coach, he'd like to see more up tempo in the team. But to achieve that the team needs to have some parts to make that happen. As currently constructed we don't resemble a up tempo team. So that is on him to make happen.

But this story is nothing but some old second grade garbage.

This is nothing new. Teams always prefer younger players over its aging ones, that is just how everything works. Kobe was not necessarily the better player compared to Shaq and yet the team still chose him over Shaq because he was younger. We are simply seeing the same thing happen here. I guess what goes around does come around.

Well Bynum is immature and is by no means a leader.

Clearly writers that want to cause drama in LA are bored during the lockout.

If these are truly opinions then we should go ahead and lock this thread up. No need in making something out of nothing. I posted the articles because I read one, one day, and found the other article the next. So It seemed kinda random that two different people would write about the same thing. I also posted it because in the first link, first sentence posted it said "Before the lockout, the Lakers informed Bryant, one of the game’s great players, he was no longer the team's undisputed top dog. Bryant was then informed he’d share this role with Andrew Bynum." That part didnt sound like an opinion, it came off as he was actually told that. But like I said. We can go ahead and lock this up.

i don't think its all opinion, there could be some truth to it. i just think the author's took an incredibly negative spin to it, namely roland lazenby who is phil jackson's go to writer.

this entire thing could have been as uncontroversial as "Bynum's role to increase, especially on the offensive end." That's something we've all asked for at one time or another and really not that controversial or news worthy. I mean, what does "no longer the team's undisputed top dog" even mean? Does anyone actually think Kobe isn't going to lead the team in FGA's this yr? may be it just means kobe isn't going to be the biggest volume shooter in the league, something he was by far when accounting for his mpg.

Big game, the topic is worth discussing especially since there isn't much to discuss these days, but you have to be mindful of what the writer says and not just how he says it. he stated that as fact, but is there any proof?

Did the Lakers sit Kobe down and told him he is going to share the top dog position with Drew or did the Lakers hire Mike brown a defensive coach at Kobe's behest. which of those statements can be proved and which is an opinion?

If the article was based on facts it would be the kind of news that the major writers (plaskey, Ding, Wojo, etc) would write about and would be all over ESPN. Oly Sander clearly draws his conclusions out of speculations and opinions, but even the tittle of the article starts with the word "RUMOR".

Yeah I typically dont post blogs or anything from hoopsvide because of the low creditability but im not gonna lie, I posted the blog because it was by roland lazenby, the author of many laker books. I didnt know he was a guy who liked to stir the pot. I gave him more credit than he deserves I guess, my bad.
