Jones’ contract had a $1.5 million signing bonus plus a $1.3 million base salary and $950,00 roster bonus for this year, for a $3.75 million first-year total. Next year he’ll make a $2.3 million base salary and $200,000 roster bonus ($2.5 million total), and in 2013 he’ll make a $2.95 million base salary and $200,000 roster bonus ($3.15 million total).

This is amazing to me.
What is it so amazing to you?
When i heard that Jones resigned with the Packers for three years, my immediate guess on the contract was 3yr/9-10 million with the possibility that James got 12 million at most.
It was pretty clear to me that the only way Jones would be back was if other WR needy teams passed and then on Thompson's terms, 3-4 million per struck me as the limit Ted was going to go. Plus, the three years aspect benefits both the team and player, especially Jones because if he plays well and stops dropping big passes, he'll only be 30 when he tries getting his next contract.
The amazing thing to me in that link is that Jenkins could be waived after this year, and the Eagles wouldn't be on the hook for a single penny in dead money. They are only paying him 3.8 million this year, but he is due 7.7 million next season. That means if he has injury problems, it's a near certainty that Cullen won't see a dime of that 7.7 million for next year. At the very least i'd have expected the numbers on his first two years being reversed in that Jenkins was guaranteed the 7.7 million this year, with a base of 3.8 next year.
People can argue about just how good Jenkins is overall and his health woes the last few years, but under contract deals like these, i think the Eagles got the best deal of free agency in getting Jenkins.
