That would be Matt Jones.

I think it's amusing how Seantrel Henderson backed out of his commitment to U$C because they got hit by the NCAA for major violations. Then he picked The U (which is obviously going to get hit hard) over O$U (which didn't get hit as hard but lost their star coach). So his top 3 choices will all have been penalized because of recruiting violations. Dude should have picked Minnesota :D although we don't even really need him that much any more, OL has been the strongest part of our recruiting classes the last few years.

This is the biggest story in collegiate sports history, and it's a sidebar item on ESPN.

I just want to say that last night I navigated away and was too focused on the Brewers and my fantasy football researching but I was going to preemptively call that you were going to bring up the Seantrel angle.

Not an insult here, but I think by the time they're competing again, he's going to be graduated. You could say that he would be an incremental part of the process, but to be honest I personally wouldn't care if I was a fan of them.

The U (lulz) is done.

Wow, what an article. Kaboom goes the Miami football/basketball programs. In light of that article, i thought this would be very fitting since the players in this song i'm sure all knew Shapiro quite well, including a segment by self acclaimed Mr. Third Leg former Bears TE Greg Olson. :D

Wow.

I think that the death penalty is absolutely deserved in this case. That said I figured that there wasn't a chance in hell they'd get it. Money involved is too huge.

They still probably won't, but the above is pretty interesting.

As I've said elsewhere, it will be interesting to see how this could affect Miami during a potential mass realignment of the conferences.

Shapiro seems like he had some fairly serious Napoleon Complex.

I just think he was a young rich dude living a glamorous/flamboyant type of Miami, Florida lifestyle, and he enjoyed the feeling that came along with hanging out with football players of the high profile Miami Hurricanes program.

Look how many guys in their 20's are out there who love sports and would think it would be cool to not just meet the athletes of a team they cheer for, but also hang out with them and party with them. Mix in all the cash Shapiro had, i just think he was very attracted to the idea of partying with and foolishly believing he was friends with these athletes. Going to clubs with them. Hanging on his yacht with them.

He found out recently though that those players weren't really his friend, they were using him just as he was using the players to make himself feel like he was apart of something that he really wasn't.

There is plenty more to my Napoleon comment, but off the top of my head, he said he decided to air out his secrets because he was hurt that a lot of the players don't talk to him anymore. He also freaked out and got in a drunken scuffle with the compliance guy when Miami football started to struggle again. He also seemed to really want to be seen with these guys, etc.

But just the way he stated the reason for telling all of the secrets was like henwanted to "take them down" and some intense stuff for feeling betrayed.

Great post.

There are guys like Shapiro around every major program in the country. They try to buy the glory and the friendship. Sometimes they wake up and realize it's all a sham, sometimes they don't.
