Re: 2011 Minor Leagues/Prospect Discussion Thread Pt II
I'd rather keep Molina, simply because he seems the sort to have less 'name' value in trade, but potentially more value on the field. Little odd that Callis misses Molina's best pitch in that repertoire...his nasty splitter. Unless he's referring to it as a split-change, but as far as I know he throws both; the splitter harder and with more bite, the change in the bottom 80s.

**** your asterisk.

Sounds like good closer material.... realistically he is what 2-3 years away?

I'd expect Molina to get here by sometime next year, if he continues apace. The bullpen is certainly a possibility, but it'd be a waste if he can hack it throwing 90-100 pitches a night. 92-94 with an out pitch (or two) and pinpoint control belongs in the rotation.

**** your asterisk.

I would say if he stays on his current track, more like next September call-up.
I don't think he has a closers makeup at all, more along the lines of a Shaun Marcum light at this point. Molina throws 4 pitches consistently, locating all 4 very well. Along with the devastating splitter which Schad just mentioned, he is one of the guys I think we'll see the quickest.

I think people still underrate this guy a bit. I figure the fact that he came out of nowhere, makes it hard for people to believe he's truly as good as he's been.

Smarter to trade perceived higher upside.

Comment From Garold
How good is Jake Marisnik?

Marc Hulet: Perhaps the best hitting prospect in the Midwest League.
Riverside, ****! That's my favorite prospect in the system. He was all tools coming in and he's answering questions about whether he'd put it all together.

Not if the perception is widely understood and they're valued equally.
I don't know though, maybe he does have legit put out stuff and ground ball capability to go along with the control. He repertoire sounds awesome. I figured he was more advanced than his competition and was beating them more with control... lazy.

What makes it remarkable is that he shouldn't be more advanced; not only is age 22 around benchmark for his current level, dude only started pitching in 2008, and still has less than 300 professional innings under his belt. While I agree that he probably won't be overpowering in the bigs, three or more above-average offerings (one of which collects whiffs) and plus control gets you places.

I shouldn't be skeptical about scouting reports on Molina from reputable writers but somehow, I still am. Like Schad said, he's age appropriate for the AA and posting GREAT K, BB and GB rates. He could be a special case and simply have an incredible amount of savy but I have an inkling that he's better than he's been reported.

Drabek gets shelled, again.
3.0IP 8H 9ER 4BB 4SO 3:1GO:FO
I still have faith in him, but I think he may as well be done for this year.

It's been a little while now people, where are my detailed scouting reports?
9. Similarly, IF THOU HAST SPENT the entire offseason predicting that thy team will stink, thou shalt not gloat, nor even be happy, shouldst thou turn out to be correct. Realistic analysis is fine, but be a fan first, a smug smarty-pants second.

I expect Cooper and McGowan.
I hope for d'Arnaud.
I doubt Hech or Sierra get the call. I could see a guy like Farquhar getting a shot. Some guys thought likely to be callups are already here, in Carreno and Alvarez.
Sierra tailed off this season, and I think he repeats AA next year. A .750 OPS won't cut it. Hopefully he has a great first couple months to earn the early promotion to AAA.
Nick Nurse recounting his first meeting with Kawhi:
“We could have gone forever. (Raptors management) kept knocking on the door and I was like, ‘A couple more minutes.’ Because we were really into it."

Re: 2011 Minor Leagues/Prospect Discussion Thread Pt II
I think Farquhar will be up tomorrow honestly with the BP meltdown and some injuries.
Drabek will be back up and so will Cooper and McGowan.
I think it's 50/50 on Hech. It's an option year anyways so we might as well bring him up.
