I think with Shump, as was the case with Fields, his effectiveness will be determined on how well he can fill the role he is asked to play. He won't really be asked to distribute the ball or create his won shot as he was asked to do throughout his college career.
He will be asked to defend his ass off, rebound with attitude, run the court finishing with ferocity, hit the open jump shots he'll undoubtedly get playing next to two stars, make the extra pass and stay within his abilities not making mistakes by trying to do too much.
Fields proved to be very effective in that role exceeding all of the scouting reports and experts who called him a fringe player who probably shouldn't have even been drafted. Shump has the skill and agility to do exactly as Fields did while potentially being a much better defender right out of the gate.
He doesn't have to be a 'star' or take over a game yet his skill set and athletic ability could prove to be a game changer as a role player even as a rookie much in the same way Fields impact was eye opening as a role player. Time will tell.
Although to make wholesale determinations about him before he has a chance to even play one minute of real NBA basketball based on scouting reports, so called 'experts' or pundits and a few youtube highlight videos all have which, time and time again, proven to be wrong just as often if not more than they are right is flawed methodology to form an opinion on.
Again, time will tell.
If you'd rather see your team fail so you can be right
...you are a fan of your opinion not the team.
