If we get Ellis that means Dwight's chance to stay is higher, and no team is trying to help us keep Dwight
cruel world, but that's business... if I was a GM on another team, I wouldn't help us either... Otis has to find a way to circumvent this!
You'd think Otis, being a GM for some time to these circumstances above, would do the cap space strategy and make pitches to CP3 , D-Will 1on1 instead of GMs to GMs to GMs...
But Im still hopeful of a CP3 trade until its over (I see a Celtic CP3, and then FA after which is good atleast). After that, if its not us in the CP3 trade, I think Otis knows D-will is not on the block and if he doesn't get a Ellis, J-Smoove, Iggy deal soon after, he will move to make the cap space next summer.
The only difference is if Dwight says he wants out now, Otis will actually do it quickly. Which is a huge mistake, there are less options in FA for D12, especially as Otis communicates the strategy to D12 and the team is sitting cap space pretty for D12 and his choice of star PG (still retaining a supporting cast of prolly Ryan, Jameer, Turk, Harper, Liggins, Orton; armed with Otis trade/MLE ingenuity -Pietrus, Bass, Barnes, Alston- and DeVos pockets). The LA offer is not bad, but its a huge mistake. Most fans will not stand up for that history repeat, and its even worse, its a 16mil contract (same as Dwight, but somehow we'll be better?) player who misses more than 1/3rd of his games. Can you imagine the vitriol rising if he's out injured in a Magic uni? Think Grant Hill all over again, and then add some more insult. The new player has to be genuinely marketable and equally efficient on the floor (and on rookie space) or the package has to have quality players all over (draftees, 1-7mil range only). In the end, I think Otis retreads his path and inputs Dwight on a potential cap space roster, where Dwight will ultimately oblige. He can recruit his star to Orl.
