Gilchrist lacks certain skills to be a top tier wing player at this point, but overtime I think Gilchrist can develop into a Rudy Gay-esque type player once he gets that jumpshot down. Rudy Gay wasn't much of a threat from deep either when he first entered the league, but could knock down the three-ball occasionally much like Gilchrist. He already seems like he can be an elite wing defender at the NBA level, getting more than a block and steal. If the player isn't going to become an elite offensive wing, he needs to at least be an elite defensive wing complemented by average-above average offense which Gilchrist seems to have with his court vision, passing, offensive rebounding, and a bit of a dribble-drive slashing game. Although the Raptors need an elite offensive wing, and there's less than a handful of them in this draft, so it's better to go with an elite defensive player who has the potential to develop a nice offensive game given his foundation. All the skills Gilchrist possesses reminds me of Rudy Gay minus the shot creating and shooting. And if the Raptors can end up with a Rudy Gay with a top 6 pick who himself is a legit All-Star, I'd be more than happy.
Basketball is like poetry in motion, cross the guy to the left, take him back to the right, he's fallin back, then just J right in his face. Then you look at him and say, "What?" - Jesus Shuttlesworth
