Would you Extend Beasley Today ..?

He has nice potential, some quality skills, and he seems like a good guy, his drug issue is fairly minor, at least it's weed, not coke or liquor. I think his only real issue is his emotional maturity, which should take care of itself over the next couple years. He has gotten a very bad rap as he seems to fit a few handy stereotypes, which from a GM's point of view is great, he will get offers lower then his talent suggests.

I would definitely wait, he's restricted anyways, let the league determine his worth, then match/beat the offer... that said, if he was willing to do something like 3 years 20 million, last year being a team option, I'd be inclined to cut the deal today.

We are obviously struggling with legitimate scoring options outside of Love now that we are so banged up. Beas legitimately can get his own (not always great) shot. Additionally, on many teams he can be a 20+ point scorer. On almost any team he can be a 15 point scorer and that is valuable enough to trade.

If Williams was closer to a deal, you'd have to think about it, but with him on a rookie deal, just pay for BEZ and trade him later if a good SG or center option presents itself where he is a point of interest.

Batum and Gordon hitting RFA is definitely encouraging. Watching these games with Beas out I can't help but think it'd be nice to have him in the lineup at times, but my rational side has come to terms with the fact that he can't fulfill the role that we expect out of him on a regular basis.

Ideally he'll exercise his option for next year and then go UFA. Depending on the players available in FA, we'd probably be best renouncing his rights altogether.

I wouldn't extend him now. He was struggling before he got injured so see how he does when he comes back. Also, we might need to just let him go during the offseason for capspace.

Either way is better than letting him walk. He has value whether you personally like him or not, and we shouldn't waste the asset.

I don't understand the rational to trade away a better player just to see if the lesser player develops. And Williams has started the last two games at the 3, and hasn't sucked. Both he and Beas are PFs that need to learn how to play SF if they want to be successful in this league.

I wouldn't have offered him an extension right now. He is way too often a negative value to the Wolves on the court. A negative value on the court isn't someone you want locked into any amount of salary for multiple years. With an $8.2 mil QO, that is somewhat questionable as well - even if it is just one year.

Sure he's young and has a lot of potential, but if he can't show some consistancy and team game skills before we need to offer him the QO, we are probably better off trading him or letting him walk.

Besides the Love extension this is what I took out of yesterday. Now I don't think we'll be able to sign him as a RFA because NO will simply match (if we can even muster up the cap space). They are not going to lose him and get nothing in return. However, given Gordon's injury history and the fact the NBA still owns the Hornets, they might not be willing to pay the 4yr 58m deal he's going to receive from another team this offseason and instead of putting themselves in the situation of matching or losing him, they could be willing to make a deal at this year's trade deadline.

Some combo of Williams/Besley for Ariza/Gordon is a very nice initial offer or make it bigger and include Okafor and Darko plus fillers if NO wants to save money.

By not giving Eric Gordon an extension, he would be easier for NOH to trade, because he doesn't pick up the Poison Pill Provision. That would make his salary the average of this year and all the extended years, which makes it difficult to salary match.
