But I don't think he has been asked to overextend himself. Anyways, this was the same case I made for Shelden Williams, and people said that he wasn't really being asked to do anything other than catch the ball and finish, which any capable NBA rotation player should do. You guys made a good point, and I ended up agreeing with you guys. But even so, Shelden Williams has been a FAR better player than Shawne Williams this season, and he actually has value in the defense/rebounding/hustle department.
I haven't seen us really ask Shawne Williams to score 15+ ppg for us, or to post up and score baskets...we've asked him to hit open 3s, which is the very reason why we signed him. Just like no matter how good the rest of your team is, you can't afford to not be able to dump the ball down low to an open big man and have them finish, you can't afford to kick it out for an open 3 and have the guy brick it every time. I can cut him some slack for the foot injury, and that's probably why he's struggled so much defensively (but a lot of times, I've noticed it's a lack of focus more than anything else, he just gets lost on rotations and loses track of his man), but then again, we're not asking him to physically stress himself, we're asking him to spot up and hit 3s...and even before he got injured, he sucked.
