neither LA nor jersey deal is even slightly better than letting Dwight walk. The pieces will not help Orlando to content for the east no matter what.
there is no point in wrapping up the season right now. If Dwight walks, he walks. It is not the point. Any action Orlando takes will not be relevant in the grand scheme of things.
thinking of trading Dwight out of spite or out of revenge or out of frustration would be a very weak move. It does not bode well with the fans of a great franchise with championship inspirations.
Bro you have to look at the future of the franchise. If Dwight walks we get NOTHING and we are left with bad contracts. We won't be contending in forever. Granted even if we trade him we won't be contending for a really long time but there is a difference. We can't let him just walk out on us based on some bull "roll the dice" crap. I was on board initially with rolling the dice but I realized we have to cut our losses and sending our terrible contracts is the best way to jump start our rebuild.
when you think about it, really, does it matter this much to get something? That something would really help the team rebuild?
I don't think so. Suppose you put together a contender in 6 years. Both Bynum and Lopez will be 30 and declining. Lopez is a slow moving lumber now, what do you think he will look like when he is 30? Bynum would even have a career at 30?
picks are not exactly breath-taking either. One of them is lottery protected and the other one will not even be a top 10 pick.
the longest contract will expire in 3 seasons. It is not that long for a rebuilding team, quite reasonable in fact. I fail to see how getting rid of our awful players would jump start rebuilding efforts.
keep Dwight, let the franchise grab some cash and make a playoff run. Dwight's agent will not let him opt in, or else he gets no cut. A lot can change in half a season, I do not think Dwight is dead set on the Nets. Who knows what would happen, both in the summer and during the playoffs.
in the end, I think we can make every scenario work. What matters is to preserve the magic name, because that truly identifies our future. Are we gonna drop to the rockets level or rise to the Celtics level. That's what matters.
