I'm tired of hearing "what else do you expect from a 3pt shooting team?" we don't have to be a three point shooting team... Meer has shown he can do more than shoot threes, obviously Dwight doesn't shoot 3's... I also listed 3 other players in the beginning of this post... we don't HAVE TO SHOOT THREES...... we could sprinkle a few 3 point plays here and there for guys like Redick, Ryan, and Rich.... but we don't NEED to shoot 25+ 3's per game....
Is Von or Liggins the guys that significantly improve this team from what it is now? It's not like their first steps are going to beat premier defenders to the basket. Meer is as inconsistent as any player in the league. I love his heart, but for every few good games Jameer and Hedo have, a few bad ones are on the way. I think you're overrating the ability of Von, Liggins, and Ish. It's not solely getting to the basket. It's getting into the paint, drawing double teams, and creating for others. Is Liggins, Von, or Ish going to do that consistently? No. Cries for Liggins, Von, and Ish are great for our bench and I support it at that, but it does nothing to help our offense. I think you're overrating a lot of guys buried on the bench. I think they could help our depth, but do they really make a difference offensively against the Heat, Bulls, or Hawks? Nope.
I think you're underrating them...
1. Liggins and Ish have shown a pass first mentality...
2. with the way these 3 get to the basket, it would collapse the defense, opening up our 3pt shooters...
3. we can draw more fouls simply by attacking the basket...
4. even if I am in fact "overrating" them, so what? the terrible players we play are old and we're not going anywhere with them... if we play the young guys, we could groom them into pretty good players... and, we don't know how good they can be... Turk is trash and will be trash for the rest of his career... Rich is getting too old to do anything other than shoot jumpers... Ryan is showing that all he can do is stand at the 3pt line and chuck away and get a few rebounds here and there....
1. Pass first, but does it set teammates up for easy shots? That's the key. Do we have a guy on our team that can break a D down and get his own shot or one for a teammate.
2. I'm not convinced Liggins, Von, and Ish are going to get into the teeth of great defenses like the Heat or Bulls.
3. Maybe
4. Here's the big one and the core of the argument. Stan won't bench Hedo, Ryan, or Jameer. He knows in order for us to have a chance with this roster, those players have to play well. I get your frustration with the 3 point chucking. Trust me, I understand as much as the next guy. But, I do think that with this roster, it gives us the only chance to compete. Stan isn't going to play players he doesn't trust (youth/new guys like Von, Liggins, Ish). I do believe they should get more burn in the 2nd unit, but I don't believe their efforts make us that much better.
I don't think Stan is completely hands free here. If I was him I'd bench JRich and start JJ, and play Ish over Duhon. And perhaps even bench Hedo for Q. I think that promotes the best diversity offensively between the two lineups. We get a better wing defender in Q and a better shooter in JJ in the SL, and we get a facilitator in the 2nd unit in Hedo.
But again, I'll agree to disagree. I don't think Stan is the real issue with this team and the horrible losses. I expect nothing more or less from objectively looking at the roster. We'll have great games where we blow opponents out, and we'll have terrible ones where we get run out of the gym.
