^its not bad... but its not raising my eyebrow much either.

it might not look mediocre but we would be stuck in mediocrity. Old Nuggets East.

Well, in fairness, we took Mike Pence off their hands. Taking back Mahinmi is the least they can do.

I remain unconvinced that Carmelo is worth anywhere near max money.

Then you don't know basketball. Melo's been to the playoffs every year as the best player, had like 5 straight 50 win seasons with the Nuggets. An elite scorer and best inside-outside player in basketball who was in a slump. Whens the last time the Wizards had a 50 win season? Probably like 1978.

No he isn't and never has been. His jumper is mediocre and he gets his shot blocked a lot inside because he can't jump. He has the same vertical as Shelden Williams.

Carmelo Anthony - per 36 numbers:
points 22.0
rebounds 6.5
assists 4.1
steals 1.1
turnovers 2.8
FG% .403
FT% .804
3P% .293
TS% .501

Player X - per 36 numbers:
points 19.3
rebounds 3.3
assists 3.9
steals 1.3
turnovers 2.9
FG% .403
FT% .785
3P% .284
TS% .490

Numbers are remarkably similar except for rebounds.

I think he's a pretty good player. The problem is - he's not just going to be paid like a superstar; he's going to be paid like a megaultraubersuperstar. (Call that Webster guy and tell him we got a new word.) He's scheduled to get 20.4 next season, 22.4 the season after next, and then 24.3. With Nene already getting his 13, a team like Washington can't justify giving up a pick for the priviledge of grossly over-paying a good player.

Look Nate: counting stats, I'm not sure I can put it any more clearly than that. Let me try that again, Counting Stats see, is this getting through to you? I don't see what you're missing here, this stuff is important. So to summarize:

LOL don't let Chuck see that comparison. I am guessing he would take it the wrong way.

I'd honestly consider giving them a pick if we fall outside the top 3 and they take Blatche's contract. Maybe something like this...

Amnesty Lewis (thus creating cap room).

Wizards trade:
PF Andray Blatche @ $6.5 mil
PF Jan Vesely @ $3.0 mil
SF Chris Singleton @ $1.5 mil
rights to 4th/5th pick (saving approx $3.5 mil in cap space)

Knicks trade:
SF Carmelo Anthony @ $18.5 mil

We'd immediately take on about $7-8 million dollars of salary but some of that would be offset by not paying for a high lottery pick. But I think we'd still have enough cap room to add one or two solid free agents to an attractive core of Wall, Anthony & Nene.

It's a risky ALL IN type move but if we miss in the lottery, it might be a better alternative to Ernie and the scouting department falling in love with a player they've had their eyes on for years. A trade like this would bring the Nene trade into better focus from a directional standpoint.

Agreed that acquiring Anthony now would be a great move. His value is at an all-time low and we would be getting a bargain of epic proportions.

Where we differ is that, past Anthony Davis, I would be more than willing to trade our pick + Shart for Melo. I like Gilchrist, Robinson and Beal but feel that Anthony's impact on the team would be incredibly positive and instantly transform this squad into a playoff team (and then some, with room to grow).
