Then take away the points. He still had double-digit assists, good rebounding numbers and (as you alluded to) low turnovers.
The reason he got those assists, for the main part, was because Detroit closed up the lanes those trucks were driving through. When the lanes were shut down, he made the appropriate, smart and sensible decision to draw the attention of the defense and kick it out to an open shooter. Mason feasted off Wall's passing.
And Wall did this with a team that really didn't shoot too well. Mack missed 2 wide open jumpers off of beautiful Wall dishes. Seraphin blew a wide-open ally-op off of a perfect Wall pass. He also got a hard-earned 3pt play taken away from him because of a terrible call from the refs.
i already noted wall's excellent passing multiple times in this thread so far. and specifically already noted that botched alley by seraphin that was a beautiful pass.
i also said wall played a very good game. just saying, it was against b-knight and the pistons. don't wanna get too overly excited about this performance but it was very good.
I was just addressing that particular post, not your overall input. The particular post, in my opinion, oversimplified Wall's game today. Yes, they allowed him easy access to the basket but it's not like every opposing point guard has a field day on them. It takes the ability to (under control) drive through and make the shot. Then, when they shut down the lane, he made the appropriate plays to find teammates. It was a very good game from John. That's all I'm saying. Would he have had almost 30/10 against the Bulls or Celtics? Probably not but we aren't talking in theory here.
I'm not trying to nit-pick, ST21. Just want to think on the positive side for a change (I'm hopelessly negative in general).
