As an extreme hypothetical, if MJ was forced to come off the bench and he sucked, would that make his GOAT status as as a starter irrelevant? Should he not be proud of the way he played as a starter just cuz he sucked as a bench player?

Yeah, it sends a message that the players aren't being judged based on how well they play (don't play) tonight. It's like school classes after exams and report cards are all done.

As an extreme hypothetical, if MJ was forced to come off the bench and he sucked, would that make his GOAT status as as a starter irrelevant? Should he not be proud of the way he played as a starter just cuz he sucked as a bench player?

I'm not saying he should not be proud of how he plays as a starter. The problem is that he's proud of the fact that he only plays well when he starts, as if that would validate him as a starter.

If you only play "well" as a starter, something's not right.

It's not like he's a diesel who needs to warm up either, he's instantly better when he starts. That's someone who doesn't accept a reserve role and deals with it the wrong way.

What is this crap? Bayless is statistically ahead of Calderon in PER, APER, winshare/48. He destroys Calderon in the "simple rating" (combination of plus/minus and production/opponent's production) stat at 82games.com

Bayless should be proud. And he should be our starting PG, unless we get someone better.
