It's not completely outrageous, but it's a significant risk to assume the contract nonetheless; if a team took him today, they would be on the hook for $12.23m in guaranteed money. That's not a small sum when we're talking about a player who has posted -1 WAR over two-and-a-quarter seasons. He'll remain a Jay, methinks.
It is a significant risk, no doubt. I just don't think it's as shady as what either Wells or Rios where. Lind is a guy who in 3 different seasons has hit no less than 23 home runs, and 72 RBI's. I know the average and the advanced stats have been down, but even at that, the guy has still been productive. I think a fair amount of teams would look at him, and think that he may be a good hitter who just needs a change of scenery or a different approach/instruction etc. You see these kinds of things all the time. And 12.5 million for the next 2 and half years, considering what you may get should he bounce back... I think is a risk that some team out there is going to be willing to take. Time will tell I s'pose.
