GrantHill wrote:Ehm, you know that Watson and Brewer have unguaranteed contract and Gomes 'deals expires after next season. You are basically trading Frye and Nash for Norris Cole and two first round picks.

And Nash for 5 million? Yes, it's possible since he wants to join a contender. None of those contenders have money to spend so why not sign&trade him to a team that is one of the best in the east and has a starting point guard spot to fill out AND get at least a pick out of it.

You're talking about worthless cap-cloggers? That's exactly what players like Lopez and Brown (and even Frye without Nash) are.

This explanation makes it soooo much better. Why would you want players just to cut them loose? I would think the Suns would want players that can play, want to be here and will make the team better and make the team better quickly. The Suns have made it abundantly clear that they have no intention of being on the bottom for any length of time. They never have operated under this philosophy.

Lets look at the make-up of team next year after your proposed trade - Cole, Warrick, Childress, Telfair, three rookies (13, 17, 29) Gortat, Dudley, Morris and we'll pass on signing Brown and Lopez, because you think they are cap - cloggers, and we'll pass on resigning Brooks because we got the great Norris Cole. Think Hill is coming back to play with this group - think again. Want a free agent? Not likely. Who is going to come to play with this? You will have to keep Brewer and Watson just to fill out the roster. The team might win 10 or so games. How many fans do you think will come to see this disaster?

You are dreaming if you think Nash is going to accept $5MM when he is likely going to have twice that on the table from the Suns and probably another team. You have him going to Dallas on a S&T for the MLE. He can get at least that from Dallas without a S&T. If Nash wants to join a contender and needs a S&T to get there and still be compensated to the extent he desires, he will let the Suns know which team he wants to go to and if there is a S&T that will be of benefit to the Suns they will do it. If not, Nash can play for what the team offers or play for a different team. He and his agent Bill Duffy know this business as well as anyone.

There are teams out there that have numerous draft choices in the 1st round, e.g. Golden State and there are teams that will look to get get out of the 1st round to save on committed salary and tax. A simple trade of a future choice to one of these teams should be able to get the Suns a 2nd first-round pick this year if they want one. The Suns will likely not want more than one additional pick.

The bottom line is your trade is terrible for the Suns and your rationalization might be worse.

No Extension For Tyreke Evans?
June 8, 2012 · 11:26AM

Could Tyreke Evans go from Rookie of The Year to not even receiving a contract extension on his rookie deal from the Sacramento Kings?

It appears so. Three years into his career, Evans has shown flashes of All-Star potential, but he’s also been moved from the point guard position he played during his rookie season. A career 18.2-point scorer, Evans saw his job as starting point guard eventually go to rookie Isaiah Thomas this season. Evans did start 61 of 63 games this season, but was in an off-guard position once Thomas took the point guard reins.

Now comes word, via Jason Jones of the Sacramento Bee, that Evans will probably not get a contract extension from the franchise this summer when he becomes eligible for one. Once thought to be the future face of the franchise, Evans has ceded that position to DeMarcus Cousins.

With the fifth pick it the Draft, the Kings are expected to take a player that could actually make Evans, and others, expendable:

The team’s leading scorer is guard Marcus Thornton, who has three years left on his contract and is due approximately $24 million.

Tyreke Evans was the Rookie of the Year in the 2009-10 season. But heading into his fourth season, the Kings are not expected to offer him a contract extension, though he will be eligible for one this offseason.

John Salmons had one of the worst seasons of his career in 2011-12 before being benched. After that, he started showing flashes of the player the Kings traded for last June.

The Kings also have Francisco Garcia and Travis Outlaw under contract and still could re-sign Terrence Williams.

Even with all the players on the wing, none in the group is an established star and all could be challenged for his spot.

That is a precipitous fall from grace for Evans. Whether it is deserved or not is another question. The Kings have had a tumultuous ride since he was drafted. And there was a time when the play of Evans was one of the few bright spots. To see him in this place now is a bit strange to say the least.

If a guy with that much talent is on the block it probably means he has some character/work-ethic concerns. If Nash/Hill were here I'd definitely explore a trade for Reke since we'd have strong vet leadership but we're rebuilding so pass. Not even sure we have anything to give them.

It could also mean that he no longer fits well with the players he has around him. The Kings' roster has undergone some substantial changes since Evans won the ROY. Seem to me he was being used as a point guard in his first year and a half. This suited his skills - lots of drives to the basket and attempts to finish, but he lacked floor vision to get teammates more involved. He was then moved to shooting guard, but he lacks a consistent outside shot. Late last year he was tried at the small forward spot, but again he lacked the consistent out side shot and was really too small to play the position on a regular basis. i suspect the Kings are being cautious about committing big $$ to a player that might no longer fit with the direction of their team.

Doesn't look like Phoenix is an option for Teletovic any longer.

After pointing at four franchises as possible destinations (New York Knicks, Phoenix Suns, Brooklyn Nets and Cleveland Cavaliers), it looks like only two of them are still on the shortlist. Teletovic will move to Brooklyn or Ohio. Raznatovic made clear that "he doesn't know what team he will play for". Anyway, in this process two rebuilding franchises have been selected: "(Brooklyn) and Cleveland" Noticias de Alava

Lets not hope for a Villanueva salary dump anymore, agreed? Lol.

Calipari says Charlie Villanueva too fat for Dominican national team
Kurt Helin Jun 13, 2012, 12:04 PM EDT

And so the decline of Charlie Villanueva continues…

The Dominican Republic has a chance to make the London Olympics this summer, they are in the pre-Olympic qualifying tournament for teams that just missed out qualifying last year. Get a top 3 finish and they can pack their bags for London.

John Calipari — last seen coaching Kentucky to a national title — coaches the Dominican team. And he made his first big move of the summer recently:

He cut Charlie Villanueva. For being fat. From the Detroit News (hat tip to Ball Don’t Lie):

“Charlie was not in good form when we saw him,” Calipari told Deportes en la Z. “He was overweight, and unfortunately, we could not slow down the entire team and it was a decision taken collectively. Last year, Charlie behaved really well with us and his only problem was his weight.”

Villanueva denied this, tweeting a photo of himself at 243 pounds (about 10 pounds below his playing weight last season). However, Calipari and company had issues with Villanueva’s conditioning last summer, then he played just 13 games for the Pistons last season due to ankle and other injuries. That said, the Pistons praised his efforts to get back in the lineup and his work in rehab.

What’s the deal here? As Eric Freeman noted at BDL, Villanueva’s game just doesn’t really fit Calipari’s uptempo, dribble penetration offense. But to cut an NBA player you need a better excuse, so let’s go with weight.

The Dominican roster still has some serious talent on it. Like the Hawks Al Horford, who needs to have a monster summer if they are going to London.

By the way, don’t think Calipari took the Dominican job to set up future recruiting pipelines. That’s not it at all. He just loves teaching the game. Why would you think he’d have another motive? You are so cynical.

The Villanueva`s deal is the worst in the NBA, hands down. That guy has finished with the basketball when was given that deal by Dumars. Completely useless. Childress at least can play.

Man, what happened to that guy (Charlie V)? I thought he was pretty decent. Guess people are motivated differently...

Dude's yearly numbers look like a contract chaser to me.

Not sure what's up with him. I was rooting for the guy, because of his medical condition, early on in his career. I think the Pistons have a shot at turning this thing around after making some huge mistakes with money a couple years ago. Ben & Charlie have only 2 more years. Pistons have the #9 this year and will probably be around then next year. Then they'll have Monroe, Knight, whoever they pick the next two years & two massive expirings to work with. I think they might actually be in better shape than us all things considered.

What do we have? 28 year old Gortat, Frye, Dudley, Morris & whoever we get this year and next year? I get so sad when I type this ****. I. Must. Stop.

If Detroit wasn't rebuilding I could see them be up for something like this. Okafor is still a servicable center. But since they are still stuck with Charlie V's contract, they are better off gathering assets until they feel ready to begin competing again.

Barring a miracle offseason that sees us resigning Nash, signing Gordon, KG, and/or Crash, we should really stand pat and wait for desperate-for-caproom teams to need to dump contracts (like Rashard Lewis') along with high picks.
It kills me to know we used to do this, not because we had a plan to afford/acquire new players, but simply to save a few mil.
But now it's our turn.

What's your problem? Do you think we'll be competitive anytime soon? This trade, while it might be a little bit unrealistic, makes sense for all teams. Hornets clear up a lot of salary and only give up a pick (maybe cut Henry out of this), Detroit pairs Monroe with a very good defensive power forward and get rid off Gordon who had bad influence on their team, Sacramento fills out a need by getting a small forward with great defense.

No reason to be this way.

If you have been around this board for any amount of time you would know there is a lot of speculation about what the team can or might do.

That's all GH is doing - try to be constructive. If you don't think it's a good idea, explain why.

I have been stalking other teams boards looking what interest might be out there for trades. The T-Wolves fans have a thread titled Jared Dudley.

viewtopic.php?f=22&t=1186717

Some of those almost Canadians feel strongly that Duds would be a good fit for them.

What about Dud's for #18, a future pic, and Wes Johnson? From what I have read Johnson has been used as a pure 2 and should be more of a 3/4 Marion type of player and this has led to under performing at the professional level. However, he could just be a bust!
