And Nash for 5 million? Yes, it's possible since he wants to join a contender. None of those contenders have money to spend so why not sign&trade him to a team that is one of the best in the east and has a starting point guard spot to fill out AND get at least a pick out of it.
You're talking about worthless cap-cloggers? That's exactly what players like Lopez and Brown (and even Frye without Nash) are.
This explanation makes it soooo much better. Why would you want players just to cut them loose? I would think the Suns would want players that can play, want to be here and will make the team better and make the team better quickly. The Suns have made it abundantly clear that they have no intention of being on the bottom for any length of time. They never have operated under this philosophy.
Lets look at the make-up of team next year after your proposed trade - Cole, Warrick, Childress, Telfair, three rookies (13, 17, 29) Gortat, Dudley, Morris and we'll pass on signing Brown and Lopez, because you think they are cap - cloggers, and we'll pass on resigning Brooks because we got the great Norris Cole. Think Hill is coming back to play with this group - think again. Want a free agent? Not likely. Who is going to come to play with this? You will have to keep Brewer and Watson just to fill out the roster. The team might win 10 or so games. How many fans do you think will come to see this disaster?
You are dreaming if you think Nash is going to accept $5MM when he is likely going to have twice that on the table from the Suns and probably another team. You have him going to Dallas on a S&T for the MLE. He can get at least that from Dallas without a S&T. If Nash wants to join a contender and needs a S&T to get there and still be compensated to the extent he desires, he will let the Suns know which team he wants to go to and if there is a S&T that will be of benefit to the Suns they will do it. If not, Nash can play for what the team offers or play for a different team. He and his agent Bill Duffy know this business as well as anyone.
There are teams out there that have numerous draft choices in the 1st round, e.g. Golden State and there are teams that will look to get get out of the 1st round to save on committed salary and tax. A simple trade of a future choice to one of these teams should be able to get the Suns a 2nd first-round pick this year if they want one. The Suns will likely not want more than one additional pick.
The bottom line is your trade is terrible for the Suns and your rationalization might be worse.
