i only dismissed this guy because i knew absolutely nothing about him.
It's not like Dunlap is the only teacher that was available. There were plenty of better coaching prospects available out there but they would clearly be more expensive like a Joerger or a Malone. Nobody is saying that the cheap way can't work. I remember Memphis paying some pretty good dollars for Iavaroni but when they fired him they went to Lionel Hollins who got peanuts. Another example is the Clippers after Dunleavy Sr. they went to Vinny Del Negro. But this was definitely the cheap way, if a GM has a blank check to get whoever they want Dunlap is not going to be near the top of the list
Hollins and Del Negro are both terrible though
